A Fresh Start: Morning Prayer

Begin your day by turning toward Jesus with openness and trust. This guide helps you offer your morning to Him through adoration, honest conversation, gratitude, and the things on your heart.

Morning General
5–12 min

Welcome. As the day opens before you, this is a good time to pause and meet Jesus first—before the rush, before the demands. Let's pray together.

Adoration

Start by noticing who Jesus is. Not what He can do for you today, but who He is in Himself. You might begin by acknowledging His faithfulness—the fact that He was there through yesterday, that He's present right now, and that He'll be with you through whatever today holds. As the writer of Lamentations discovered even in sorrow, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning" (Lamentations 3:22–23, ESV). Let that sink in. His mercies are new. Not recycled from yesterday, but fresh for this day. Take a moment to thank Him simply for being the kind of God who shows up, who stays, who is worthy of your trust before you even ask Him for anything.

Confession

Now open the door to honesty. This is the safe space where you can talk to Jesus about the ways you've drifted from Him—maybe yesterday, maybe this morning already. Perhaps you spoke in anger, or you're holding onto worry instead of faith, or you know you've chosen your own way over His. You don't need perfect words. Jesus already knows what's in your heart, and He invites you to bring it to Him anyway. Peter writes that we can "cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). That includes the stuff you're ashamed of. Confess what comes to mind—not to earn His love, but to clear the air between you so you can walk with Him freely today.

Thanksgiving

Shift your gaze to what God has already given you. Not someday, not eventually—but right now, today, in this morning. Maybe it's rest that came last night, or breath in your lungs, or a person who loves you, or a small mercy you almost missed. Maybe it's simply that you woke up. Don't rush this. The Psalmist writes, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, ESV). Today—this actual day—is His gift to you. Name three things, big or small, that you're grateful for. Let your heart genuinely touch each one.

My Concerns

Finally, bring the weight of your day to Jesus. What do you need? What are you uncertain about? What's already weighing on your mind this morning? Talk to Him about your day ahead—the people you'll see, the decisions you might face, the fears that are creeping in. Jesus tells us, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). He's not annoyed by your asking. He's inviting it. Be specific. Whether you're asking for wisdom, courage, gentleness, healing, provision, or simply the presence to know He's there—tell Him. Then invite Him to guide your steps today. Ask Him to help you notice His hand, to lean on Him when you're tempted to lean only on yourself, and to come back to Him whenever you drift.
