A Fresh Start: Morning Prayer for Today

Begin your day by drawing close to Jesus. This prayer guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication—giving you space to offer him your morning, your worries, and your hopes for the hours ahead.

Morning General
5–12 min

Good morning. Before the day pulls you in different directions, take these next few minutes to sit with Jesus and let him set the tone for your day.

Adoration

Start by noticing who Jesus is. You might begin by acknowledging his faithfulness—the fact that he was there when you woke, that he never sleeps or grows weary watching over you. As the prophet Isaiah reminds us, "The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary" (Isaiah 40:28, NIV). Spend a moment simply telling Jesus what you admire about him. Maybe it's his patience, his strength, his nearness to you, or the way he loves without condition. You don't need many words—just let your heart speak what it sees in him this morning.

If words feel hard to find, that's alright. You might simply sit with a truth about him: Jesus is with me right now. He cares about this day. He is good. Let that truth become your conversation.

Confession

Now gently bring the weight you're carrying—or simply bring yourself as you are this morning. You might have something specific on your heart, or you might just need to be honest about how you showed up yesterday, or last night, or even a few moments ago. There's no need to rehearse every mistake; just tell Jesus what's true. As John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, NIV). The good news is that confession is not about earning forgiveness—it's about stepping into the forgiveness he's already offering.

Take a breath. Name what needs naming. Then pause and let yourself receive the quiet assurance that you are forgiven, that this day is not defined by yesterday, and that Jesus meets you exactly as you are right now.

Thanksgiving

Shift now toward gratitude. Even in an ordinary morning, there are gifts worth naming. Maybe it's the simple fact that you woke up, that you have another day, that there's someone or something that matters to you. Maybe it's a kindness you received, a quiet moment, the hope that today could be different. The psalmist invites us into this habit: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). You're not pretending everything is perfect—you're simply noticing what is good.

What three things come to mind? Maybe it's something as simple as a warm drink, a breath, a person in your life, or the fact that God is patient with you. Tell Jesus thank you for these things. Let gratitude settle in before you move forward into your requests.

My Concerns

Now bring your needs. What do you need from Jesus today? Maybe it's wisdom for a decision ahead, courage for something that feels daunting, peace about something that worries you, or simply the presence to notice him throughout the day. Jesus invites you to ask: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). He is not bothered by your asking. He welcomes it.

Take time to name what matters most for these next hours. Speak it out loud if you can. Ask him to guide you, protect you, strengthen you, or simply to help you notice his presence. And as you close, you might ask him to help you return to him throughout the day—not just in this morning moment, but in the small decisions and ordinary minutes ahead. Trust that he hears you and that he cares about what you've brought to him.
