A Prayer Before or After Meetings
A guide to bring Jesus into the conversations, decisions, and relationships that happen around the table. Whether you're walking in nervous or walking out reflective, this prayer helps you hand over what matters most.

Adoration
Begin by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of ordinary work and conversation. He doesn't stand apart from meetings—he's present in the way truth gets spoken, the way people listen, the way decisions get made. Take a moment to acknowledge his presence right now. You might pray something like: "Jesus, you are with me in this room. You see what I'm about to face—or what just happened. You care about how we treat each other here. I want to meet this moment with you." As Paul reminds us, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving" (Colossians 3:23-24, NIV). Even in meetings, you're serving Jesus. He's not distant from this.
Confession
Meetings can bring out the worst in us sometimes—ambition, defensiveness, the need to be right, impatience with others. Or maybe you walked in unprepared, distracted, or carrying frustration from elsewhere. Don't minimize it, but don't hide from it either. Talk to Jesus honestly about it. You might say: "I came in wanting to look good instead of listen well," or "I was short with someone when I should have been kind." Jesus already knows. The gift is that you can name it to him without fear. As John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There's no judgment waiting for you here—only cleansing and a fresh start.
Thanksgiving
Even in difficult or mundane meetings, there's something to be grateful for. Maybe someone said something wise. Maybe you made a real connection with a colleague. Maybe the meeting ended and you're still standing. Maybe you learned something about yourself or about the work itself. Thank Jesus for one specific thing—however small—that you can point to. You might pray: "I'm grateful that you helped me stay calm," or "Thank you that someone spoke truth in there," or simply "Thank you that I get to work alongside people." As Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). Gratitude shifts what we see. It reminds us that even ordinary moments are held by Jesus's care.
My Concerns
Now bring your real needs. Do you need courage for a conversation that's coming? Wisdom for a decision on the table? Help to speak up or to listen better? Patience with someone difficult? Clarity about what matters most in this work? Don't be vague—be specific. "Help me know what to say in the next meeting," or "Give me patience with my boss," or "Help me remember that this project isn't my whole life." Jesus invites you to ask. He says, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). Lay your needs before him. He's listening, and he cares about the weight you're carrying in these meetings.
