Adoration
Begin by recognizing God's character and authority over all gatherings. As it is written, 'Every good and perfect gift is from above' (James 1:17), and we praise God for His omniscience and wisdom that surpasses all human understanding. Lift your eyes to the One who knows the beginning from the end, who sees all things clearly and guides the affairs of people according to His divine will. The scriptures remind us that 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever' (Hebrews 13:8), and His steadfast nature gives us confidence that He is present in our meetings, our conversations, and our decision-making moments. Spend time acknowledging His lordship over every interaction and committee, every collaboration and conflict resolution.
Confession
Now, bring your true self before God with honesty. Confess any pride that may rise within you during meetings—the desire to be heard above others or to win arguments rather than seek truth. As Paul teaches us, 'Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves' (Philippians 2:3). Admit any anxiety, fear of judgment, or concern about performance. Acknowledge moments when you've failed to listen well, when you've been impatient, or when you've prioritized your own agenda over the good of the group. Bring before God any resentment, frustration, or bitterness that may linger from past meetings, asking Him to cleanse your heart and restore your spirit.
Thanksgiving
Express gratitude for the gift of community and shared purpose. Thank God for the colleagues, partners, or teammates He has placed in your life and for the opportunity to work together toward common goals. Recognize that 'where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them' (Matthew 18:20), and give thanks that your meetings are opportunities for God's presence and work. Be grateful for clarity that has emerged in past discussions, for wisdom shared by others, and for your own voice and perspective that contributes to the whole. Thank the Lord for any agreements reached, any problems solved, and any growth that has come through collaboration.
My Concerns
Finally, present your specific requests to God with confidence. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant you wisdom and discernment as you engage in your upcoming meeting, that you might 'ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find' (Matthew 7:7). Pray for clear communication among all participants, that words spoken will be truthful and kind, and that 'the tongue has the power of life and death' (Proverbs 18:21) will guide you toward life-giving dialogue. Request God's help in listening deeply to others, in considering viewpoints different from your own, and in seeking consensus where possible. Ask for patience, humility, and a servant's heart as you navigate any disagreements. Pray that 'whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters' (Colossians 3:23), and commit the outcomes to His hands, trusting in His providence.
