Adoration
Begin by acknowledging God's transcendent nature and His presence in all our interactions. As the psalmist declares, 'The Lord is my light and my salvation' (Psalm 27:1), we recognize that wisdom comes from seeking Him first. Praise God for His infinite knowledge and understanding—He sees what we cannot see and knows what we cannot know. Take a moment to honor Him as the ultimate counselor, the one who 'gives wisdom generously to all without finding fault' (James 1:5). Let your heart rise in gratitude for His constant availability and willingness to guide us through every conversation and decision we face.
Confession
Reflect honestly on how you've shown up in meetings and conversations. Confess moments when you've spoken without listening, when pride has prevented you from hearing others' perspectives, or when anxiety has caused you to retreat rather than engage with clarity. Consider times you've prioritized your agenda over understanding others' hearts, as Jesus teaches us in Matthew 7:12 to 'do to others what you would have them do to you.' Ask God's forgiveness for communication failures—impatience, harsh words, or failure to seek understanding. Invite the Holy Spirit to soften your heart and align your intentions with His desire for unity and truth.
Thanksgiving
Express gratitude for the relationships represented in your meetings and the opportunity to collaborate, share ideas, and grow together. Thank God for moments when communication has flowed well, when misunderstandings were cleared, and when you've witnessed the power of genuine listening and respect. Celebrate any agreements reached, breakthroughs achieved, or stronger connections formed through meaningful dialogue. As Colossians 3:15 reminds us, 'Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.' Give thanks for God's grace that covers awkward moments and allows for second chances in our relationships.
My Concerns
Ask God to grant you clarity of thought and purpose as you approach your meetings. Request wisdom to discern what truly matters and to speak words that build up rather than tear down, remembering that 'the tongue has the power of life and death' (Proverbs 18:21). Pray for courage to voice your perspective while remaining humble and open to others' viewpoints. Ask the Holy Spirit to guard your heart from defensiveness and to cultivate genuine interest in understanding those around you. Finally, petition God for unity among all participants—that together you might find solutions that honor everyone involved and reflect His kingdom values of justice, compassion, and truth.
