A Simple Conversation with Jesus

A gentle prayer guide for anytime you want to draw closer to Jesus. No particular burden or celebration — just you and Him, talking through what's on your heart.

Anytime General
5–12 min

Welcome. This is a quiet space to simply be with Jesus and let your heart speak. There's no pressure here — just honest conversation.

Adoration

Start by noticing who Jesus is. You don't need grand words. You might begin by acknowledging something true about Him: that He is faithful, that He sees you, that He is patient, that He made the world and holds it in His hands. As you sit with these truths, let your admiration grow naturally. The Psalmist says, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord" (Psalm 27:4, NIV). You're doing that right now — simply gazing. You might whisper a name for Jesus that means something to you. Faithful One. Good Shepherd. Friend. Let it be whatever draws your heart closer.

Confession

Gently bring to mind something that weighs on you — a word you spoke in haste, a choice you're not proud of, a place where you've drifted from His way, or even just the smallness you sometimes feel. Don't perform regret here. Simply name it honestly, as you would to a trusted friend who loves you anyway. Jesus already knows, and He invites you to speak it aloud. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There is no shame in coming as you are. What's one thing you want to set down before Him right now?

Thanksgiving

Even in ordinary days, there is so much to be grateful for. Think of three small things — a moment of kindness, a meal, a person who made you laugh, a breath you took without thinking about it, a way He showed up for you. Thanksgiving isn't about forcing joy; it's about noticing His fingerprints everywhere. "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, NASB). You might thank Him for what He did, for what He is doing, and for what He will do. Even gratitude for unanswered prayers — for the ways He's said no or not yet — can deepen your trust.

My Concerns

Now bring your needs, your hopes, and your desires before Him. Ask for what you need. Ask for guidance, for courage, for healing, for wisdom, for someone you love, for peace. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). Jesus invites you to ask. He is not annoyed by your needs; He is moved by them. What is it you most want Him to know about what you're carrying? Speak it freely. And then, if it helps, surrender it — not because your asking didn't matter, but because you're placing it in the hands of the One who loves you more than you love yourself.
