Adoration
Start by simply looking at who Jesus is in the midst of your celebration. He is the source of every good gift, the one who orchestrates joy and gives us reasons to rejoice. As the apostle Paul writes, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). Take a moment to tell Jesus what you admire about His character—His generosity, His faithfulness, His perfect timing. You might speak to Him about how He shows up in the moments that matter most. Let your praise be honest and warm, the kind you'd share with a friend who's just done something beautiful for you. What aspect of His nature feels most real to you right now, in this moment of celebration?
Confession
Even in joy, there's often a quiet truth we need to name. Perhaps you celebrated without pausing to thank the One who made it possible. Maybe you felt a moment of pride that belonged to God alone, or worry that tried to shadow your happiness. Jesus invites you into honesty, not heaviness. As He says in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (ESV)—and that includes the small ways we stumble even on good days. Gently bring any of these to Him now. Did you forget to acknowledge His hand? Did anxiety creep in? Did you hold the blessing too tightly, forgetting it comes from Him? Name it simply, knowing that confession opens the door even wider to His grace.
Thanksgiving
This is the heart of your evening prayer. Thank Jesus for the specific joy you're holding—name it by name. Whether it's a milestone, a kind word, a answered prayer, or simply a moment of peace, let Him hear your gratitude. The Psalmist writes, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name" (Psalm 100:4, ESV). Don't rush this part. Let your thanksgiving be particular and real. Thank Him not just for the big thing, but for the details—the person who was there, the way it unfolded, the feelings it stirred. Thank Him for being present in it. Thank Him for loving you enough to give you reasons to celebrate. What would change if you looked at this whole day as a gift from His hand?
My Concerns
As evening wraps around you and this joy settles into memory, ask Jesus to help you carry this blessing forward. Pray that He would anchor this moment in your heart—not as something to cling to anxiously, but as evidence of His faithfulness you can return to on harder days. You might ask Him to help you share this joy with others, to multiply the blessing by letting it overflow. Or ask Him to protect your heart from taking this for granted, to keep you aware of His goodness tomorrow and the next day. Colossians 4:2 reminds us, "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful" (ESV). Ask Him to deepen your trust in Him, knowing He's the author of good gifts. What do you most want to ask of Him as you close this prayer time?
