An Evening Prayer in Hard Times
A gentle guide to bring your weariness and pain to Jesus as evening falls. This prayer creates space for honesty about what's difficult, and invites you to rest in His presence despite the weight you carry.

Going through something hard

Adoration
Begin by simply naming who Jesus is to you in this moment. You don't need eloquent words — just truth. He is the one who saw you today, who knows every moment you've carried. As the psalmist writes, "You have searched me, Lord, and you know me" (Psalm 139:1, NIV). In the darkness of evening, He is still near. You might whisper to Him: *Jesus, you are God. You see me. You are here even now, in this hard thing.* Let yourself rest for a moment in the fact that He doesn't turn away from difficult things or from the person living them. He draws close. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18, ESV). Sit with that nearness. Tell Him what it means to you that He doesn't leave when life gets hard.
Confession
This is a safe place to be honest. If you've grown angry, numb, or distant because of what you're facing — that's real, and He can hold it. There's no confession to perform here; there's just the invitation to stop pretending. You might find yourself saying things like: *I've been carrying this alone. I didn't know how to ask for help. I doubted You.* Or perhaps you've hurt someone because you're hurting. Name it gently. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Jesus meets confession with forgiveness, not with shame. Take a moment to voice what needs to be said in the privacy of this prayer, knowing that speaking it aloud to Him is already the beginning of release.
Thanksgiving
Even in difficult seasons, there are small mercies — moments of breath, people who've steadied you, a night's rest, the fact that you're still here. Thank Jesus for what sustained you today, even if it's small. You might say: *Thank you for getting me through today. Thank you for [a person, a moment, a small grace].* "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). Gratitude doesn't erase the difficulty — it reminds you that you're not abandoned inside it. Look for one thing, however small, that His hand touched today.
My Concerns
Now bring your need directly to Jesus. What does your heart need right now? Peace in the darkness? Strength for tomorrow? Healing? Clarity? A sign that He's still there? Don't soften your words or make your plea polite — He invites you to ask boldly. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). You might pray: *Jesus, I'm asking for... I need you to...* and then speak what's true for you. You can also pray for the people around you who are affected by this difficulty. End this time by asking Him to hold you through the night ahead, to guard your heart and mind, and to give you what you need for tomorrow. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, NIV). Leave your petition with Him. He's listening.
