Before the Meeting: Finding Clarity and Calm

A prayer guide to help you center yourself before an important meeting. Whether you're nervous, uncertain about what lies ahead, or simply want to invite Jesus into the conversation, this guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication to bring calm focus and wisdom to the next hour.

Anytime Meetings
5–10 min

Take a breath. Before you walk into that meeting, sit here for a few minutes with Jesus. He's already there, and He invites you to bring what's on your mind.

Adoration

Start by remembering who Jesus is in the midst of your day. He is not distant or preoccupied—He is present and attentive. As it says in Proverbs, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Even in the details of your meeting—the conversation, the decisions, the dynamics—His wisdom is available. You might spend a moment simply telling Him: *Jesus, you are wise. You see the whole picture of this meeting before it even happens. I trust that you are here with me.* Let yourself feel the steadiness of His presence.

Confession

Now, gently bring any anxious thoughts, unmet expectations, or ways you've been approaching this meeting that don't reflect trust in Him. Maybe you've been rehearsing what you'll say out of fear. Maybe you've been holding onto control, forgetting that He's in charge. You don't need to perform or earn His favor—He already knows and loves you. As Jesus reminds us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). You might simply say: *Jesus, I confess that I've been carrying this meeting as if it all depends on me. Help me let go of that burden and trust you.* There's nothing He won't understand or forgive.

Thanksgiving

Pause to notice what's already true. You've been given a voice and a place at this table. You have people around you—even if the meeting feels tense, there are relationships there. You have His presence, which you can't lose. You might offer thanks for a specific person in the meeting, or for the opportunity itself, or simply for the fact that He walks with you even when you're uncertain. The apostle Paul wrote, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Even in meetings that matter, gratitude shifts what we see. Say to Him: *Jesus, thank you for being here. Thank you for the chance to serve and speak. Thank you that this meeting doesn't depend on me alone.*

My Concerns

Now bring your real requests to Him. What do you need in this meeting? Clear thinking? Courage to speak up? The ability to listen well? Wisdom to know when to stay quiet? Peace, regardless of the outcome? Jesus invites you to ask boldly: "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24, ESV). You might pray: *Jesus, I ask for clarity in my thinking. Help me listen well and speak with honesty. Give me courage if I need it, and wisdom to know what this moment requires. Whatever happens in this meeting, help me trust that you're working for good.* Bring Him the specific concern that matters most—He's listening and He cares about the details that matter to you.
