Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer

A gentle guide to bring your day of meetings to Jesus—to invite Him into your conversations, decisions, and interactions before they happen. This prayer helps you approach each meeting with clarity, patience, and His presence.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Take a few moments before your day unfolds to sit with Jesus. He is already in every room you will walk into today.

Adoration

Begin by simply naming who Jesus is to you—especially in this moment. You might acknowledge His steady presence: Jesus, You are the God who speaks and listens. You know every conversation that will happen today before it begins. You are patient, wise, and present in the details of my day. As David prayed, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on his beauty" (Psalm 27:4, ESV)—and that includes today, in these meetings, in these ordinary hours.

Take a moment to sit with that truth. Jesus is not distant from your calendar or your conference calls. He is Emmanuel—God with us. Thank Him for His nearness before the rush begins.

Confession

Now bring the weight you might be carrying. Maybe you're anxious about a difficult conversation. Maybe you've rehearsed what you'll say and feel the tension of needing to perform or prove something. Maybe there's frustration with someone you'll face, or doubt about whether you'll say the right thing. Jesus, help me see where I'm leaning on my own strength instead of Yours. As He reminds us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV)—and that includes the weight I'm carrying into today.

There is no shame in admitting where you feel small or inadequate. Name it gently, and let Jesus meet you there. If you've been impatient or unkind in preparation, bring that too. His grace covers it.

Thanksgiving

Shift now to gratitude for what is already true. Thank Jesus for the people you will meet—even the difficult ones. They matter to Him. Thank Him for any opportunity these meetings represent: to serve, to listen, to learn, to contribute. Thank Him for giving you a mind that works, a voice that can be heard, and time itself as a gift. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, ESV).

Spend a moment naming specific things: the colleague who has your back, the clarity you found while preparing, the cup of coffee in your hand right now. Gratitude reshapes how we show up.

My Concerns

Finally, ask Jesus for what you need. You might pray for wisdom to listen well, not just to be heard. You might ask for patience—for yourself and for others. You might request courage to speak truth kindly, or humility to receive feedback. "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV).

Don't rush this part. Ask for His presence to be felt in the room—not as a distraction, but as a quiet confidence that He is with you. Ask Him to help you see others the way He sees them. And ask for peace—not the absence of difficulty, but the deep assurance that you are not alone in any of it.
