Before the Meetings Begin
A morning prayer guide to center yourself before a day of meetings, asking Jesus for clarity, patience, and His presence in each conversation.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by remembering who Jesus is in this moment. He is not distant from the details of your day—He sees you and each conversation you're about to have. You might tell Him: "Jesus, you are present in every room, every word, every decision. You speak with wisdom that runs deeper than any agenda." Think about His steadiness. As it says in Proverbs, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). He is not fazed by complexity or conflict. He moves through difficulty with perfect calm. Spend a moment simply acknowledging that reality—that the One who holds all things together is already in your meetings, already at work. You might whisper His name slowly, letting it anchor you: Jesus. Jesus. Jesus.
Confession
Now bring Him the places where you know you'll struggle today. Maybe you tend to rush into meetings without listening. Maybe you grow defensive or impatient. Maybe you chase approval or worry what others think. Don't shy away from naming these—Jesus already knows, and He's not keeping score. As John reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Talk to Him about where you're fragile this morning. Ask Him to soften the places in you that need softening before you walk into that first meeting. You don't have to be perfect in those rooms—you just have to be honest with Him now, so you can walk in a little lighter.
Thanksgiving
Turn now to gratitude for what's already true. Thank Jesus for the people you'll meet with today—even the difficult ones. They matter to Him. Thank Him for your own voice and the chance to use it. Thank Him for failures in past meetings that taught you something. Thank Him for colleagues who listen well, for moments when things have gone right, for His patience with you when they haven't. The Psalms tell us, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). As you list these, let gratitude settle into your chest. It shifts something. It reminds you that you're not walking into your meetings empty-handed—you're walking in with a life already full of His kindness.
My Concerns
Finally, ask Jesus for what you need. Ask for clarity—the ability to hear what's really being said, not just the words. Ask for patience with silence and with rambling. Ask for courage to speak truth when it matters and wisdom to know when to hold back. Ask Him to help you see people the way He sees them, not as obstacles or competitors but as human beings He loves. You might say: "Jesus, give me ears to listen, a calm voice, and a heart that cares more about doing what's right than looking good." Ask Him to be present in the hard moments—the tension, the confusion, the stakes. Ask Him to order your steps and your thoughts. As you pray, trust that He hears you. "You do not have because you do not ask," Jesus said, "Ask and it will be given to you" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). Bring Him your real requests. Then step into your day knowing He is already there.
