Evening Guidance: Seeking Wisdom for Tomorrow
As evening settles, bring the decisions before you to Jesus. This prayer guide helps you lay out what you're uncertain about and listen for His direction in the quiet of the night.

Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to the One who sees what lies ahead. Jesus knows the path before you takes its first step. Sit with that for a moment—He is not surprised by your uncertainty, and He welcomes you asking. As David wrote, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV). You might spend time acknowledging that Jesus is trustworthy precisely because He is Lord over tomorrow. Thank Him that guidance is not beyond His character—it flows from who He is. Tell Him what draws you to seek His wisdom tonight.
Confession
Here in the evening, be honest about where you've been relying on your own judgment, your own worry, or the opinions of others instead of turning first to Him. You don't need to perform certainty you don't feel. If you've made decisions without consulting Him, or if you're carrying anxiety about choosing wrongly, name that. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). That invitation includes the burden of indecision. Confess the ways you've tried to figure this out alone, and let the weight of it rest in His hands instead of yours.
Thanksgiving
Pause to remember times when His guidance has proven true. Maybe it was recent, or maybe you have to reach back further—but you have walked a path He directed. Thank Him for the moments when you sensed His leading and followed it. Thank Him also for the patience He shows when you ask the same questions again and again. As Paul reminds us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28, NIV). Even the circling and the waiting serve His purpose. Express gratitude that seeking His will is itself an act He honors, regardless of how quickly clarity comes.
My Concerns
Now bring the specific decision or direction you're carrying into this prayer time. Name it plainly to Jesus—what are you trying to discern? You might ask Him to settle your mind as you sleep, to bring clarity through rest, or to show you a next small step rather than the whole path at once. Pray as the psalmist did: "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long" (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV). Ask for the peace that guards understanding—not necessarily the feeling of having figured it out, but the assurance that you are held. Close by asking Him to speak to you however He chooses: through Scripture, through wise counsel, through circumstances, or through the quiet knowing that settles in your spirit.
