Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is. You might start by noticing something from your day that reminded you of his character—a kindness you witnessed, a moment of beauty, the way someone showed you patience. Let that simple observation lead you into praise. "You are worthy of praise," the psalmist reminds us, and that worthiness isn't dependent on how your day went (Psalm 145:3, ESV). You don't need perfect words. Just speak to Jesus about his goodness, his faithfulness, his presence with you even in ordinary moments. Tell him what draws your heart to him tonight.
Confession
Now, with honesty and without shame, bring your day before Jesus. Where did you stumble? Where did you act in ways that pulled you away from him—in your words, your choices, the way you treated someone, or simply in moments when you forgot he was there? Jesus invites you to this: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Confession isn't about shame; it's about coming clean so you can be free. Name what weighs on you, speak it aloud if you can, and let yourself feel the relief of honesty before the one who already knows everything and loves you anyway.
Thanksgiving
In this quiet evening moment, turn your mind to gratitude. What has Jesus given you today? Perhaps it was something small—a warm meal, a friend's laugh, a breath of fresh air—or something deeper. Maybe you're thankful for how he held you through something difficult, or for a prayer he answered. "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, ESV). Spend a few moments naming the gifts you received, the ways you were sustained, the evidence of his care. Even if today was hard, there are grains of goodness scattered through it. Let yourself find them and offer your thanks.
My Concerns
Finally, ask Jesus for what you need as you move toward rest and tomorrow. What are you carrying into sleep? Anxiety about what's ahead, a relationship that needs healing, a decision you're wrestling with, a longing you hold? Bring it to him. "Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). You don't have to figure everything out tonight. Simply lay your requests before Jesus—for yourself, for those you love, for peace in your heart as you rest. Ask him for what tomorrow needs. And ask for sleep that restores you, so you wake ready to walk with him again.
