Adoration
Begin by fixing your gaze on the character of God rather than the weight of your worries. As the psalmist reminds us, 'You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust' (Psalm 91:2). Spend these moments acknowledging that God is infinitely greater than your anxiety, that He is faithful, sovereign, and eternally vigilant over all His children. Consider how Jesus Himself said, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). Let your heart rest in the truth that the God you adore is both mighty enough to handle all your concerns and tender enough to care about every trembling thought that keeps you awake at night.
Confession
Now bring the roots of your anxiety into the light. Confess the ways fear has become a louder voice than faith, how you have tried to carry burdens that were never meant for your shoulders alone. As Paul writes, 'Do not be anxious about anything' (Philippians 4:6), and yet you know how easily anxiety takes hold. Confess the times you have forgotten to pray, when worry has stolen your trust. There is no shame here—only the safe space to admit that anxiety whispers lies about God's presence and power. Invite the Holy Spirit to expose the roots of fear, whether they spring from past hurts, present uncertainty, or future dread, so that you might release them into His care.
Thanksgiving
Even in the darkness of this anxious night, there is reason to give thanks. Thank God for the very awareness that something is wrong, for it drives you toward Him rather than deeper into despair. Express gratitude for His promises that 'the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 4:7). Thank Him for the nights you have survived before, for His mercies that are new each morning, and for the simple gift of breath that sustains you even when your mind races. Give thanks that anxiety is not your final identity—you are a beloved child of the living God, and that truth is more solid than any fear.
My Concerns
Now pour out your specific concerns before the throne of grace. Following Paul's instruction, 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God' (Philippians 4:6). Ask God to settle your racing mind, to slow your heartbeat, to quiet the what-ifs that multiply in the darkness. Petition Him for wisdom to discern which worries require action and which require release. Ask for supernatural peace—not the absence of circumstances, but the presence of His calm in the midst of them. Request restful sleep if your body needs it, and if sleep doesn't come, ask Him to meet you in the waking hours with His nearness, His comfort, and His unshakeable presence.
