Midday Meetings: A Prayer for Presence and Wisdom
A brief prayer guide to center yourself in Jesus before, during, or after meetings. Whether you're about to step into the room or catching a quiet moment between conversations, this guide helps you bring your whole self — your questions, your weariness, your hope — to Jesus.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Begin by noticing Jesus right here in the middle of your day. He doesn't wait for you to find a perfect, quiet place to meet Him. As Paul reminds us, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13, NIV). That strength isn't reserved for mountaintops or prayer rooms — it's available to you in conference rooms, on Zoom calls, in hallways between conversations. You might pray something like: Thank you, Jesus, that you are present with me right now. Thank you that you care about the details of my day — not just the big decisions, but the meetings, the conversations, the people I'm about to encounter. You are steady when my thoughts are scattered. You are wise when I feel uncertain. Just sit for a moment with that truth: Jesus is here, and He sees you in this midday season.
Confession
Now, be honest about what this season of meetings stirs up in you. Maybe it's frustration — impatience with small talk or slow decisions. Maybe it's anxiety about how you came across, or worry that you weren't heard. Maybe it's pride, a desire to be the smartest person in the room, or envy of someone else's contribution. The good news is that Jesus doesn't flinch at any of it. He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). You might pray: Jesus, I need to be honest with you. I felt [frustrated/anxious/defensive/disconnected] in that meeting. I caught myself wanting to [prove something/control the outcome/hide]. Forgive me. Help me release the parts of this I can't control and let go of what's not mine to carry. Take what I'm holding too tightly.
Thanksgiving
Even in a busy day of meetings, there is something to be grateful for. Maybe it's a colleague who spoke kindly. Maybe it's a decision that moved forward. Maybe it's simply that the meeting ended and you're still standing. Maybe it's the person across the table who reminded you of something important about your work or your team. You might pray: Thank you, Jesus, for [the person who listened/the moment we laughed together/the clarity that came/the chance to be part of something meaningful]. Thank you that I don't have to perform or prove myself — you already know me and accept me. Thank you for moments of grace in the middle of ordinary work. As the Psalmist writes, "I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart" (Psalm 9:1, NIV) — even in the middle of midday, even between meetings.
My Concerns
Now bring Jesus your needs, your questions, your requests for what comes next. Perhaps you need wisdom for a decision that hasn't been made yet. Perhaps you need patience with a colleague or clarity about your role. Perhaps you need courage to speak up in the next meeting, or humility to listen better. Bring it all. Jesus says, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24, NIV). You might pray: Jesus, I'm asking you for [wisdom about this decision/patience with this person/courage to speak/clarity about my next step]. Help me listen well. Help me see others the way you see them. Help me bring my real self to these conversations — not a perform version, but the person you made me to be. Guide me in the hours ahead. I trust you with how this unfolds.
