Midday Meetings: A Prayer for Presence and Wisdom
A short prayer guide to center yourself before, during, or after meetings. Whether you're gathering with colleagues, stepping into a difficult conversation, or reflecting on what just happened, this guide helps you bring Jesus into the middle of your workday.
Midday
Before a big moment

Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of work and conversation. He doesn't stand outside your meetings—He's present in them. You might pray something like: "Jesus, You know what's about to happen in that room. You're already there. Help me see Your presence in this moment." The Bible reminds us that "in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17, ESV)—that includes this meeting, these conversations, and the people around the table. As you sit with that truth, let it settle in. You're not carrying this moment alone.
Confession
Be honest about what you're bringing into this space. Maybe it's anxiety about how you'll be perceived, or frustration with someone you're about to meet with. Perhaps it's impatience, the desire to control the outcome, or the weight of trying to prove yourself. Jesus invites you to lay it down. "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). Take a moment and name one thing—just one—that's been sitting heavy on you today. You don't need perfect words. Say it simply: "I'm afraid of..." or "I'm angry about..." or "I want to control..." Jesus already knows. Naming it just opens the door for Him to meet you there.
Thanksgiving
Even in the tension of meetings, there's something to be grateful for. Maybe it's the people in that room—their effort, their perspective, even their differences. Maybe it's the work itself, the opportunity to contribute, or simply that you're still here, still trying. Or maybe it's just that Jesus is faithful, that He doesn't leave you when things feel hard. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV)—not because everything is easy, but because He is constant. Pause and thank Him for one thing, even something small. A colleague who made you laugh. A break in the schedule. The coffee in your hand. Let gratitude shift something small in your chest.
My Concerns
Now bring your real needs before Jesus. If it's courage you need, ask for it. If it's patience with someone difficult, say so. If you need wisdom to know what to speak and what to hold back, or the ability to listen well, lay that at His feet too. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him" (James 1:5, ESV). You might pray: "Help me speak truth with kindness," or "Calm my mind so I can listen," or "Give me courage to say what needs to be said." Ask Jesus for what this moment actually requires. He's listening, and He's not too busy to care about your midday prayer.
