Midday Prayers for Meetings
A brief prayer guide for pausing during the workday to bring your meetings—past, present, or upcoming—before Jesus. Find clarity, patience, and purpose in the midst of your day.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Begin by looking at who Jesus is in this moment. He is Emmanuel—God with you—and he cares about the details of your day in ways you might not even realize. As you sit here, maybe thinking about the meeting you just left or the one coming next, remember that Jesus himself sat in difficult conversations, navigated complex relationships, and always spoke with purpose and love. He knows what it means to be heard and misunderstood. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV)—and that invitation includes this very moment, right here in the middle of your workday. Take a moment to simply acknowledge Jesus' presence with you. You might pray something like: *Jesus, you are here. You see these meetings, these conversations, these tensions. Thank you for being with me.*
Confession
It's easy to walk into meetings carrying things we shouldn't carry alone—impatience, the need to control outcomes, fear of what others think, words we wish we could take back. Rather than push those away, bring them to Jesus. There's no judgment in his presence, only understanding. If you spoke too harshly in a meeting, or stayed silent when you should have spoken, or let anxiety drive your choices—Jesus already knows, and he's not waiting to shame you. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). You might simply say: *Jesus, I bring you the meeting where I lost patience. I bring you my fear that I wasn't good enough. Forgive me for the words I spoke in frustration, and for the kindness I held back. Help me receive your forgiveness so I can move forward.*
Thanksgiving
Even in a difficult meeting, there are seeds of grace to notice. Maybe someone listened. Maybe you found common ground. Maybe you learned something about yourself or someone else. Maybe the meeting simply ended, and you survived it. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). Look back over your meetings today—or even just this one—and name something, however small, that you're grateful for. It might be: *I'm thankful that I stayed calm when things got tense. I'm grateful for the colleague who made me laugh. I'm thankful for the clarity that came out of that difficult conversation.* Let gratitude shift your perspective, even just a little.
My Concerns
Now bring your requests to Jesus with honesty. If you have meetings ahead, ask him for what you actually need: wisdom to listen well, words that are kind and true, the ability to stay present instead of anxious. If you're carrying regret from a meeting that's already happened, ask him to open doors for reconciliation or understanding. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV). You might pray: *Jesus, I ask for patience in my next meeting. Give me clarity about what I should say and the courage to say it. Help me listen more than I defend. And if I've broken trust with someone, show me how to repair it.* Bring your specific needs. He is listening.
