Prayer Guide for Difficult Times

A structured ACTS prayer guide designed to bring comfort, honesty, and hope when facing life's hardest moments, helping you process pain while reconnecting with God's presence and faithfulness.

Anytime Difficult
8–15 min

Welcome to this time of prayer. Whatever difficulty you're facing, know that God invites you to bring your whole heart to Him—your pain, your questions, and your need for His strength.

Adoration

Begin by anchoring yourself in who God is, even in the midst of your struggle. Praise Him for His unwavering character and eternal nature. As the apostle Paul reminds us, 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort' (2 Corinthians 1:3). Acknowledge that God's love is not diminished by your circumstances, and His power remains infinite. Declare His goodness even when you cannot see the full picture: 'You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power' (Revelation 4:11). Let your heart rest in the truth that He is sovereign over all things, including this difficult season you're walking through.

Confession

This is a safe space to be honest with God about the full reality of what you're experiencing. Confess any bitterness, doubt, fear, or anger that has taken root in your heart. As it says in 1 John 1:9, 'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.' Don't hide from God; He already knows what you feel and welcomes your raw honesty. Acknowledge where you may have turned away from Him, where you've relied on your own strength instead of His, or where you've allowed despair to cloud your faith. Release these burdens to Him, knowing that confession opens the way to restoration and peace.

Thanksgiving

Even in difficulty, there are gifts to recognize and gratitude to express. Thank God for His presence with you in this trial—He has not abandoned you. Jesus promised, 'And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age' (Matthew 28:20). Express gratitude for the people, resources, or small mercies He has provided. Thank Him for past faithfulness, remembering times when He has carried you through challenges before. Consider what this difficulty might be teaching you about dependence, compassion, or your own strength. As Paul wrote, 'Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus' (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Allow your heart to shift toward appreciation for His character, His promises, and His unshakeable love for you.

My Concerns

Now bring your specific needs and petitions before God with courage and trust. Ask Him for relief from your pain, wisdom to navigate your circumstances, and strength for each day ahead. Pray as Jesus taught us: 'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you' (Matthew 7:7). Request peace that transcends understanding to guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7), and ask for discernment to see how He might be working in and through this difficulty. Intercede for those affected by your situation, and ask God to use this season to deepen your faith and draw you closer to Him. Finally, surrender the outcome to His hands, praying as Jesus did: 'Your will be done' (Matthew 6:10).
