Adoration
Begin by recognizing God's supreme wisdom and authority over all gatherings. As we read in Proverbs 15:22, 'Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed'—and the greatest counsel comes from the Holy Spirit himself. Praise God for his omniscience, for he knows the hearts and needs of every person in your meeting. He is present in every conversation, every decision, and every moment of uncertainty. Lift up your voice to acknowledge that God is the foundation of all truth, all understanding, and all effective communication. Rejoice that you serve a God who promises in Matthew 10:19-20, 'Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.' What a privilege to have access to such divine guidance.
Confession
Now, bring before God any hesitations or anxieties about meetings. Confess times when you've spoken without thinking, acted with pride rather than humility, or failed to listen with genuine care for others. Perhaps you've entered meetings with a critical spirit or prepared them with selfish motives. As it says in James 3:5-6, the tongue is a small thing, yet it can cause great damage. Ask God's forgiveness for moments when your words have been careless, unkind, or misleading. Acknowledge any fear of man that has prevented you from speaking truth or standing firm in your convictions. Remember 2 Timothy 1:7: 'For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and a sound mind.' Lay these shortcomings at the foot of the cross and receive the cleansing grace Christ offers.
Thanksgiving
Express gratitude for the gift of communication itself and for people placed in your life and work. Thank God for colleagues, leaders, and teammates—even those difficult to work with—recognizing that He uses all relationships to shape us. Give thanks for past meetings where God granted clarity, unity, or breakthrough moments. Appreciate opportunities to influence others toward good, to learn from diverse perspectives, and to serve a purpose larger than yourself. As Philippians 4:4-6 reminds us, 'Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.' Thank the Lord for His faithfulness in meeting you in previous gatherings and for His promise to continue guiding you.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific requests before God. Ask Him to grant you wisdom, discernment, and clarity during your meeting—whether it concerns decisions to be made, conflicts to be resolved, or information to be shared. Pray for the other participants: that their hearts would be open, their minds sharp, and their motivations aligned with what is right and good. Request courage to speak truth with compassion, and humility to listen well. If you're anxious about a particular outcome, entrust that to God, asking Him to work out His purposes regardless of the result. Pray Psalm 141:3 over yourself: 'Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.' Ask for supernatural peace that surpasses understanding, as promised in Philippians 4:7, and for the ability to represent Christ's character through your presence and participation in the meeting.
