Adoration
Begin by recognizing God's perfect character and His intimate knowledge of all things. Praise Him as the source of all wisdom and understanding. As the Psalmist declares, "The Lord is my light and my salvation" (Psalm 27:1), acknowledging that God sees what lies ahead and cares deeply about directing your steps. Lift up His omniscience—His ability to see the beginning from the end—and thank Him that He is not distant or uninvested in the details of your life. Worship Him as the God who promises in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Confession
Humbly acknowledge where you may have relied on your own understanding rather than seeking God's counsel. Confess any times you have ignored the Holy Spirit's gentle promptings or dismissed wise counsel from others. If you have rushed ahead without prayer, or doubted God's ability to guide you, bring these matters before Him honestly. Remember that God offers grace abundantly—as it says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to purify us from all unrighteousness." Ask God to cleanse your heart of pride, fear, and self-reliance so that you might be receptive to His direction.
Thanksgiving
Express gratitude for God's faithfulness in guiding you throughout your life thus far. Thank Him for past decisions that revealed His wisdom, and for those times when His guidance protected you from harm. Give thanks for the tools He has provided—the Bible as His revealed word, the Holy Spirit as your counselor, and the body of Christ as a source of wisdom and encouragement. Acknowledge with gratitude that God cares about your future and considers your requests important. As Philippians 4:6 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
My Concerns
Now present your specific requests for guidance before the Lord. Ask God to illuminate the right path forward and to make His will unmistakably clear to you. Pray for wisdom to discern between your own desires and God's purpose, asking Him to align your will with His. Request clarity in the specific decision or direction you face, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak through Scripture, circumstances, and the counsel of wise believers. As James 1:5 encourages, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Close by asking for peace and patience as you wait for God's answer, trusting that His timing is perfect.
