Seeking Guidance This Morning

A prayer guide to help you bring your questions and decisions to Jesus at the start of your day, inviting His wisdom to shape the hours ahead.

Morning Guidance
5–12 min

As your day unfolds, you carry questions that need answers and choices that need light. Let's invite Jesus into this uncertainty together.

Adoration

Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—the one who already knows what lies ahead. You might start by acknowledging His perfect wisdom. As the book of Proverbs reminds us, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Spend a moment recognizing that the guidance you seek comes from someone who sees clearly what you cannot yet see. Talk to Jesus about His steadiness—how He never rushes, never second-guesses, never runs out of insight. You might thank Him simply for being the kind of person worth asking.

Confession

Now bring the places where you doubt His guidance into the light. Perhaps you've wrestled with trusting Him before. Maybe you're tempted to rely only on your own thinking, or you feel anxious about making the wrong choice. There's no shame in admitting these struggles to Him. As it says in 1 John, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Tell Jesus where you've leaned away from Him. Name the fear or hurry that tempts you. He's already known it all along—confession simply invites you to stop hiding and step toward His grace.

Thanksgiving

Take a moment to recall times when His guidance has actually held you. Think back to a decision where you sensed His leading, a moment when His direction proved faithful, or even a closed door that protected you from harm. Give thanks for His faithfulness in those moments, because it teaches you something true about how He guides. As Paul writes, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28, ESV). Your past experience with Him is proof of His character. Thank Him for it.

My Concerns

Now bring your specific need for guidance before Jesus. Be honest about what decision or direction you're facing this day. Don't worry about finding perfect words—just tell Him what you need to know. Ask Him to make His will clear to you, not through confusion or pressure, but through peace. Jesus Himself prayed this way in hard moments, and He invites you to do the same. You might pray, as the Psalmist did, "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior" (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV). Ask Him to guide not just your thinking, but your heart and steps. Tell Him you're ready to follow where He leads.
