Seeking Guidance This Morning
A gentle prayer guide to help you begin your day by bringing your need for direction to Jesus. This guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication as you ask for wisdom and clarity.
Morning
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by simply noticing who Jesus is — especially His faithfulness and wisdom. He has guided His people through every uncertain morning since the beginning. Take a moment to speak to Him about His character. You might say something like: "Jesus, You are wise beyond measure. You see what I cannot see. You know the path ahead of me when I can only see the next step." Let the truth settle: the One who made the stars knows exactly where you're going. As Solomon discovered long ago, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Rest in that for a moment. What draws you toward trusting Him today?
Confession
Before you ask for direction, it can help to notice where you might be holding on too tightly to your own plans, or where fear is whispering louder than faith. You don't need to be harsh with yourself here — just honest. You might pray: "Jesus, I confess that sometimes I rush ahead without waiting for You. Sometimes I'm afraid of making the wrong choice, and that fear keeps me from moving at all." There's no shame in this. Even those closest to Jesus asked for signs and reassurance. What's one place where you're struggling to trust His leading? Name it gently, and know that bringing it here is already an act of faith.
Thanksgiving
Now turn your attention to the times Jesus has already guided you — maybe in this week, this month, or further back. Look for the small faithfulnesses, the closed doors that protected you, the unexpected detours that led somewhere good. You might pray: "Thank You, Jesus, for the ways You've already shown me I can trust You. Thank You for guiding me even when I didn't realize it at the time." As the psalmist writes, "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy" (Psalm 16:11, ESV). Spend a moment recalling one time you felt His guidance — even if it wasn't clear until much later. Gratitude opens your heart to receive more.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need for guidance to Jesus. Be direct and honest about what you're facing today. Where do you need clarity? What decision is in front of you? What next step feels unclear? You might pray: "Jesus, I need wisdom about [name the situation]. I'm asking You to show me the way forward. I'm willing to follow where You lead, even if it's not what I expected." Remember that He promises: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach" (James 1:5, ESV). Don't rush this part. Jesus is listening, and He delights in your asking. What's one specific thing you need His guidance on right now?
