Seeking Guidance This Morning
A morning prayer guide for when you need wisdom and direction. This guide helps you bring your questions to Jesus and listen for His leading as your day unfolds.
Morning
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by simply noticing Jesus. He is already here—present, attentive, and wise. You might spend a moment acknowledging who He is: the One who sees what lies ahead, who knows every twist the day might take, and who cares deeply about your next steps. As the Psalmist says, "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). Before you ask for direction, let yourself rest in the truth that you are not navigating this day alone.
You might pray something like: *Jesus, I'm grateful you are light in places I can't yet see. I'm grateful you know what I don't. Help me trust you this morning.* Take a breath. Let that settle.

Confession
Now, gently turn toward honesty. Where have you been trying to figure things out on your own? Where might fear be whispering louder than faith? There's no judgment here—just truthfulness between you and Jesus. Sometimes we wrestle with guidance because we're afraid of what He might ask. Sometimes we're tempted to ignore what we sense He's already showing us.
Bring that to Him now. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). You might say: *Jesus, I confess that I've been anxious instead of asking. I've doubted your goodness. I've wanted to choose my own way.* Pause there. Let His kindness meet you.

Thanksgiving
Before you ask for what you need, notice what He has already given. Think back—has He guided you before? Has He closed doors that seemed like failures but turned out to be mercies? Has He brought people into your life who helped you see clearly? Gratitude opens your heart to hear Him better.
Jesus taught us that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above" (James 1:17, ESV). You might pray: *Thank you for every time you've led me and I didn't even realize it. Thank you for people who've spoken wisdom. Thank you that you're not silent—you're speaking even when I'm learning to listen.* Let thankfulness soften your heart.

My Concerns
Now ask. Bring your specific need before Jesus without pretense. What decision sits in front of you? What situation needs clarity? Don't worry about finding the perfect words—He understands what your heart is asking even before you speak.
You might pray: *Jesus, show me the next right step. Give me wisdom about [name your situation]. Quiet the noise in my head so I can hear you. Help me trust that your way, even if it's not what I expected, is good.* Then—and this part matters—create space for listening. You don't need an audible voice; sometimes His guidance comes as peace, as clarity that grows clearer over hours or days, through circumstances, through trusted people, or through His Word. "The Lord will guide you always" (Isaiah 58:11, ESV) is not just a promise for later—it's for today. Stay present. As you move through your morning and your day, stay alert to how He might be speaking.
