Seeking Wisdom This Morning
A prayer guide to help you invite Jesus into your decisions and uncertainties this morning, asking for clarity and direction as you face the day ahead.
Morning
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is to you in this moment—the One who knows the future you cannot see, who walked through decision-making himself, who promises never to leave you uncertain. You might pray something like: "Jesus, I come to you this morning because you are wisdom itself. You see what I cannot see. You know what comes next, and you care about every choice I make." As you sit with that, let the truth settle: "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). He doesn't hoard guidance—he gives it freely to those who ask. Take a moment to tell him that you trust him with what you cannot yet know about today.
Confession
Now, gently bring the places where you haven't trusted him yet. Maybe you've been running ahead, trying to figure everything out alone. Maybe you've been stuck in fear, afraid to move in any direction. Maybe you've ignored a quiet nudge from the Spirit because it seemed too risky. There's no shame in any of this—just tell him. You might say: "I confess that I've been trying to control what I can't control" or "I've been too afraid to listen, even when you were speaking." Remember: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). That cleansing happens right now, in this moment of honesty. You're not bringing up old failures; you're clearing the space between you and him so guidance can flow freely.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for direction, pause to recognize what he's already guided you toward. Think back: where has his wisdom already shown up in your life? Maybe it was a decision that turned out well, a person who appeared at just the right time, a closed door that kept you safe, or a step of faith that strengthened you. "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:14, NIV)—and his guidance has been part of that making, that working. You might say: "Thank you, Jesus, for the times you've led me. Thank you for the wisdom you've already given me." Spend a moment naming two or three specific times you felt his hand steering you. Gratitude prepares your heart to receive more.
My Concerns
Now ask. Be honest about where you need direction today. Is it a decision you're carrying? A relationship you're uncertain about? A next step in work or calling? A tension between two good options? Lay it out for him without dressing it up: "Jesus, I need your wisdom about..." and then name it. Then listen to what his Word speaks into that space: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV). Notice the sequence—trust, surrender your own figuring-it-out, submit—and then the path becomes clear. You might pray: "Show me the next right step. Quiet my fear. Help me to hear your voice above my own doubts." Ask him not just for the answer, but for the peace to recognize it when it comes, and the courage to follow it. Ask him to guide your steps today, hour by hour if that's all you can see right now. That's enough.
