A Fresh Start: Morning Prayer

Begin your day by bringing your whole self to Jesus—your hopes, your hesitations, and your need for His presence. This morning prayer guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication to help you meet the day with grace.

Morning Everyday life
5–12 min

Welcome. As the sun rises, you're invited to rise with it into conversation with Jesus—to let Him know what's on your heart and to receive what you need for the hours ahead.

Adoration

Start by simply noticing who Jesus is. You might begin with something you love about Him—His faithfulness, His gentleness, the way He sees you. The psalmist wrote, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord" (Psalm 27:4, ESV). Before you ask Him for anything, take a moment to gaze. What about Jesus steadies you this morning? Maybe it's that He rose from sleep just as you have—that He knows what it means to greet a new day. Or perhaps it's simply that He's been waiting for you. Tell Him what you see.

Confession

Now bring the weight you're carrying. Not in shame, but in honesty. If you woke up with irritation, impatience, or doubt—if there's something you said yesterday you wish you could unsay, or a way you showed up that didn't reflect His love—this is the space to name it. Jesus said, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There's no judgment waiting here, only cleansing. Talk to Him about what's weighing on you. What are you carrying that doesn't belong to you? What do you need to set down?

Thanksgiving

Even on ordinary mornings, there is always something to notice and give thanks for. You woke. Your heart is beating. There is breath in your lungs. Jesus taught us to notice the small things—the sparrows, the lilies (Matthew 6:26-29, ESV)—because gratitude opens our eyes to grace already at work around us. What's one thing that's working? One small gift from yesterday that carried you through? It might be as simple as a cup of coffee, a person who made you laugh, or just making it to today. Tell Jesus thank you for it. Gratitude isn't about pretending hard things aren't hard; it's about seeing what's true and good alongside the struggle.

My Concerns

Finally, bring your needs. What does this day require of you? Where do you need courage, wisdom, patience, or peace? You don't need to have it all figured out—just lay it at His feet. Jesus invites us: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). Take a moment to name the one thing, or the few things, you most need His help with today. Maybe it's steadiness in a difficult conversation, clarity about a decision, or simply the grace to be kind to yourself. Speak it aloud or silently. He's listening.
