A Fresh Start: Morning Prayer

Begin your day by bringing yourself fully to Jesus—your hopes, your concerns, and your whole self. This guide walks you through a gentle conversation with God as the day opens before you.

Morning Everyday life
5–12 min

Welcome. This is a good time to meet Jesus before the day pulls you in different directions. Let's talk to him together.

Adoration

Start by simply noticing who Jesus is. You don't need eloquent words—just turn your attention toward him. You might begin by remembering something true about him: his faithfulness, his presence, his love that met you yesterday and is meeting you today. As the psalmist says, "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord" (Psalm 27:4, ESV). Take a moment. What draws you to Jesus this morning? Maybe it's his patience, his strength, or simply that he's already awake and aware of this day you're about to live. Tell him what you see in him.

Confession

Now bring the truth of yourself into the light. This isn't about shame—it's about honesty. Where did you stumble yesterday? Where are you afraid you might stumble today? What weight are you carrying that isn't yours to carry? Jesus meets us in these places without judgment. He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). You can name the small failures, the anxious thoughts, the ways you've turned from him or from others. Speak them aloud or hold them quietly before him. He already knows. He's waiting for you to let them go.

Thanksgiving

Let your eyes rest on what's already true and good. Maybe it's simple: breath in your lungs, a warm bed you woke up in, someone who loves you, or a second chance at today. Gratitude isn't about ignoring hard things—it's about noticing the grace that's already here. The apostle Paul writes, "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). What small thing can you thank Jesus for right now? A mercy from yesterday? A promise you're holding onto? A person in your life? Let gratitude settle into your chest for a moment.

My Concerns

Finally, talk to Jesus about the day ahead. Not as a checklist, but as real needs. What are you walking into today? Where do you need his wisdom, his courage, his kindness to show up in you? What relationships, decisions, or struggles need his touch? You can be specific and honest here. "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). Ask him not just to fix things, but to be with you in them. Ask him to make you more like himself as you move through these hours. Ask for what you genuinely need.
