A Midday Celebration: Giving Thanks for God's Goodness
A prayer guide to help you pause at midday and celebrate with Jesus the good things He is doing in your life. This is a time to let joy lead you closer to Him.
Midday
Grateful for something
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by lifting your eyes to who Jesus is—not just what He's done, but who He is in Himself. You might tell Him: Jesus, You are the source of every good gift, and right now my heart is full because of Your kindness. As it says in the Psalms, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above" (James 1:17, ESV)—and I see that truth today. Take a moment to speak to Him about His character. What do you see about Him in this moment of joy? Is He faithful? Generous? Close? Let those truths shape the words you offer back to Him. You might say, "Lord, You are so good," or simply sit with the warmth of knowing His presence beside you in this celebration.
Confession
Even in celebration, our hearts are not always fully at rest in His goodness. You might pause and gently ask: Jesus, are there places where I haven't fully trusted You, or moments when I forgot this joy comes from You? There's no need to dig for guilt—just invite Him to show you if there's anything between you right now. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). This confession is simply opening your hands to Him, not hiding anything. You might pray, "I want to celebrate this with a clear heart," and let Him do the work of bringing anything to light that needs His grace. Trust that even here, in this moment, you are safe with Him.
Thanksgiving
Now is the time to let gratitude overflow. Tell Jesus specifically what you're celebrating—name it, give it words. Thank You, Jesus, for this good thing. Thank You that I get to experience Your kindness in this way. As Philippians 4:4 says, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (ESV)—and that's what you're doing right now. Don't rush this part. Let yourself feel the weight of the gift and the giver. You might thank Him for small details: the people involved, the circumstances that came together, the way He timed this blessing. You might even thank Him for the joy itself—for letting you taste His goodness so directly. Tell Him: "I don't take this for granted. I see You in this."
My Concerns
From a heart full of thanksgiving, bring your deeper longings before Him. You might pray: Jesus, as I celebrate this good thing, would You help me carry this joy forward? Would You deepen my trust that You are this good in all seasons? Ask Him to anchor this moment in your heart so that even when harder days come, you'll remember: He is faithful. You might ask Him to help you share this celebration—to include others in your joy, or to be generous because you've experienced His generosity. As Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (ESV). What desire rises in you right now? What would it mean to trust Him with it? Close this time by asking Him to keep you close, to help you live in the reality that He is both the giver and the gift.
