A Midday Pause: Prayer for Meetings
A brief prayer guide for the middle of your day when meetings fill your calendar. Whether you are heading into a tense conversation, coming out of something draining, or simply need to reset before the next one, this guide helps you bring Jesus into the rhythm of your workday.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
You sit down for a moment, and you notice how your shoulders carry the weight of back-to-back agendas. Before you move to the next thing, tell Jesus what draws you to him right now. You might begin by naming his steadiness — the way he never rushes, never loses his composure, never forgets a single person in the room. As Psalm 46:5 reminds us, "God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns" (ESV). Even here in the middle of your day, he is present. You could pray about his wisdom — how he sees every angle, every heart in those conversations you are navigating. Let yourself feel the relief of that. Jesus is not scattered like your schedule. Speak to him about the gift of his attentiveness, his clarity, his calm. What about his presence makes you feel less alone right now?
Confession
There is often something in meetings that trips us up — maybe impatience, the urge to be heard, frustration when things move slowly, or the weight of needing to have all the answers. Take a breath and talk honestly with Jesus about what you felt in that last meeting or what you are nervous about in the next one. Did you speak too quickly? Did you hold back when you should have spoken? Are you carrying tension that isn't yours to carry? Jesus already knows, and he meets you here without judgment. As 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). He doesn't need a perfect confession — just your honesty. What would it feel like to set down the part of those meetings that you have been carrying as shame or regret?
Thanksgiving
Midday is a good time to notice what has already gone well, even in small ways. Did someone listen? Did a conversation land better than you expected? Did you say something true? Did you survive a difficult moment and are still here? Thank Jesus for those moments — they are real gifts. Even if today feels rocky, there are threads of grace woven through it. Colossians 3:15-16 invites us: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful" (ESV). You might also give thanks for the people around you — colleagues, clients, or leaders who show up with their own courage and effort. Thank Jesus for the chance to work, to think, to solve problems alongside others. What is one thing in your meetings today that you are genuinely grateful for?
My Concerns
Now bring to Jesus what you actually need. If more meetings are coming, you might ask him for clarity, presence, and words that matter. If you are worn out, ask for renewed energy or a lighter touch — the freedom to do your best without needing to be perfect. If there is tension with someone, ask him to soften your heart or theirs, or to show you a step toward understanding. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (NIV). You do not have to fix everything. Bring him what is real, what is hard, what you need. What one thing would it help to ask him for before you step back into the day?
