A Morning Conversation with Jesus
Start your day by sitting quietly with Jesus. This guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication—giving you space to bring your whole self to him as the day unfolds.
Morning
Everyday life
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by noticing who Jesus is. You might start simply—thank him that he is awake with you this morning, that his mercies are new. There's no need for elaborate words. The psalmist captures it well: "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). In these quiet moments before the day pulls at you, sit with that truth. Jesus is present. He is trustworthy. As you breathe in the stillness, you might whisper his name, or recall a time when you felt his goodness. Let your heart settle into the reality that you belong to someone who loves you completely. What draws you to him this morning? What aspect of his character do you want to rest in?
Confession
Gently bring to mind the ways you've stumbled—not to shame yourself, but to bring them into the light where healing happens. You don't need to rehearse every misstep; Jesus already knows. Instead, ask the Spirit to show you what matters: Where have you turned from trust? Where have you hurt someone? Where have you believed a lie about yourself or about him? The apostle John reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Notice that—cleanse us. Not shame us. Not condemn us. When you confess, you're not trying to convince Jesus to like you. You're opening your hands to let go of what's been weighing you down. Speak honestly. He's listening with tenderness.
Thanksgiving
Even on ordinary mornings, there is much to be grateful for. You woke. You're breathing. Someone loves you. You have a Savior. Begin with the obvious gifts—safety, food, people who matter to you—and let gratitude deepen from there. The apostle Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). This isn't about forcing joy. It's about pausing to notice what's true: God's faithfulness doesn't depend on your circumstances. As you move through your day, you'll encounter both hard things and small joys. Right now, while it's quiet, name what you're grateful for. Let that gratitude settle into your bones so it can anchor you when the day gets busy.
My Concerns
Now bring your needs and the needs of others to Jesus. What are you carrying into this day? What weighs on your heart? What do you hope for? There's a beautiful invitation in Philippians: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). Notice the word "present"—as if you're handing something to someone you trust. Jesus invites you to bring him everything: your worries about the day ahead, your hopes for the people you love, your own deep longings. Don't minimize what matters to you. Pray for clarity if you need it. Pray for courage. Pray for the people on your heart. Pray for strength to love well. Then, after you speak your requests, sit quietly. Let his peace settle over you—not as an answer to every prayer, but as a presence that holds you while you wait.
