A Morning Offering

Start your day by offering yourself to Jesus—your attention, your uncertainties, your hopes. This prayer guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication as you invite him into whatever this day holds.

Morning Everyday life
5–12 min

Good morning. Before the day pulls at you, take a few moments to sit with Jesus and offer him your heart.

Adoration

Begin by simply noticing who Jesus is. You might think of a name for him that feels true to you right now—Shepherd, Friend, King, Healer. Hold that name quietly for a moment. As you do, remember that Jesus has already been awake, already present, already working. The psalmist writes, "You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light" (Psalm 18:28, NIV). That light doesn't start when you wake up—it's been there all along. Talk to Jesus about what you admire in him. What has he shown you about his character? Maybe it's his patience, his creativity, the way he notices the small things. You don't need eloquent words—just honest ones. Tell him what draws you to trust him.

Confession

Now gently bring any weight you're carrying. Not to shame yourself, but to set it down. Where do you sense you've moved away from him—in your thoughts, your choices, the way you've treated yourself or others? Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). He invites you to bring it all. There's no confession too small or too large. If you're struggling to name anything specific, that's okay too—you might simply tell him: "I know I'm not what I want to be. I'm grateful you love me anyway." Let yourself feel his gentleness here. He is not keeping score. He is drawing you close.

Thanksgiving

Turn your attention now to what you've been given. This might be big things—relationships, health, provision—or small ones: a warm cup of tea, a moment of quiet, a thought that made you smile. Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). Even in a day you're uncertain about, there are gifts to notice. Thank Jesus for what you can see clearly, and also for what you trust he's doing even when you can't see it. Thank him for being with you yesterday, for meeting you this morning, for walking with you into this day.

My Concerns

Finally, ask. Tell Jesus what you need. Maybe it's wisdom for a decision ahead, or calm for a restless mind, or strength for something hard. Maybe it's simply: help me notice you today. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). Lay your needs before him without hedging or apologizing. He wants to hear them. Ask him to guide your words, your choices, and your presence with others. Ask him to help you see his hand in whatever comes.
