A Morning Prayer Before Your Meetings
A prayer guide to center yourself before a day of meetings. Use this to hand your conversations, decisions, and interactions to Jesus, and to ask for wisdom, patience, and presence throughout the day.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by simply noticing Jesus' presence with you right now, before the day rushes in. He is already awake. He is already present to what's ahead. You might start by acknowledging His steadiness: Jesus, You are the God who sees. You know every conversation I'll have today before I speak a word. As the psalmist writes, "You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar" (Psalm 139:2, NIV). There's comfort in that—nothing catches Him off guard. Take a moment to speak to Him about His character. You might thank Him for His wisdom, or tell Him how much you need His calm presence in the noise of back-to-back conversations. What draws you to Him this morning?
Confession
Now, gently bring to Jesus the ways you know you'll be tempted today. Perhaps you already feel the pressure to perform, to impress, to get it right. Maybe you're carrying frustration from a previous conversation into today's meetings. You don't have to perform for Jesus—He already knows you completely. Talk to Him honestly: Where do you feel defensive? Where might you speak too quickly, or hold back when you should speak truth? As Paul reminds us, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed" (James 5:16, NIV). Confession isn't about shame; it's about laying down what weighs you down so you can move freely. What would it feel like to walk into your first meeting unburdened?
Thanksgiving
Pause and name something—maybe just one thing—you're grateful for as you head into this day. Perhaps it's the people you'll meet with, or an opportunity you've been given, or simply that you get another chance to show up with integrity. You might be thankful for past meetings that went well, or for growth you've experienced in how you listen and communicate. The apostle Paul wrote, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near" (Philippians 4:4-5, NIV). Even in a busy day, there's room for joy. Speak to Jesus about what you genuinely appreciate—about this day, about the people you'll encounter, or about how He's shown up for you before.
My Concerns
Now bring your needs. Ask Jesus for what you actually need in these meetings: clarity of thinking, patience when conversations get tense, courage to say what needs to be said, or the wisdom to know when to listen instead. You might ask for favor, or for the other people in your meetings to be open-hearted. Jesus taught us, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). He invites you to ask. So ask directly: What's the one thing you most need from Him as you step into your day? Stay with that request for a moment. Let Him hear your heart.
