A Morning Prayer Before Your Meetings
Start your day by bringing your meetings—and your heart—to Jesus. This prayer guide helps you move from hurry into His presence, inviting Him into the conversations and decisions ahead.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by simply noticing who Jesus is. He doesn't rush. He doesn't worry about time. As you look at the meetings on your calendar this morning, turn your attention first to the One who sees and knows everything about them already. Jesus, you are steady. You are present in every room, every conversation, every decision—even when I feel scattered or unprepared. The psalmist reminds us, "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly" (Psalm 5:3, NIV). That's what we're doing here. You don't need my meetings to be impressive or perfect for You to care about them. You care about me. You care about how I show up, what I listen for, and who I might serve in the midst of ordinary conversations. Let that settle in for a moment.
Confession
Now, gently turn toward anything that's tangled up in you about these meetings. Maybe it's anxiety—worry that you'll say the wrong thing or that someone will judge you. Maybe it's pride—wanting to be seen as capable or impressive. Maybe it's distraction—knowing your mind will wander to a dozen other tasks. You don't have to clean this up before you talk to Jesus about it. Just name it. "Jesus, I'm carrying [fear, frustration, pressure, whatever it is] into today, and I'm laying it here with you." He already knows. As Paul writes, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). Notice that—He doesn't ask you to be unafraid first. He invites you to bring the fear itself to Him.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for what you need, pause to notice what's already true. Maybe it's that you have a job, or people who want to hear from you, or a mind that works. Maybe it's simply that it's morning—another day, another chance. Thank Jesus for one thing about today that's good, even if small. You might pray, "Thank you for coffee," or "Thank you that Sarah will be in that meeting," or "Thank you that this difficult conversation is a chance to listen better." As Colossians 3:15-17 reminds us, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.... And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him" (NIV). Gratitude shifts something. It moves you from dread into partnership with Jesus.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific needs. Not as a checklist, but as honest requests. You might ask for clarity—"Help me hear what really matters in these conversations, not just what's loud." You might ask for courage—"Give me words that are true and kind, even when I'm nervous." You might ask for wisdom—"Show me where I can listen well, where I can help, where I need to stay quiet." Or simply, "Be with me. Be in the room." Jesus tells us, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). He means it. Your meetings matter to Him because you matter to Him. Take another moment and name one or two things you're genuinely asking Him for as you step into your day.
