A New Morning with Jesus

Start your day by turning toward Jesus—praising who he is, bringing your honest self, noticing what you're grateful for, and inviting him into the hours ahead.

Morning Everyday life
5–12 min

Good morning. Before the day pulls you in different directions, take a few minutes to sit with Jesus and let him set the tone for what's ahead.

Adoration

Begin by noticing who Jesus is. You might start simply: thank him for being alive, for meeting you this morning, for being the same faithful God in this brand-new day. As the Psalmist says, "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, ESV). That's not wishful thinking—it's an invitation to see this day as already held in his hands, already marked by his presence.

Take a moment to speak to the character of Jesus that strikes you most this morning. Is it his steadiness? His kindness? His power? You don't need eloquent words—just honest ones. "Jesus, you are..." and let it come.

Confession

Now bring yourself, as you are, into his presence. There's no pretense here. You might notice places where you've already drifted from him this morning—worry you picked up before your feet hit the floor, unkind thoughts, hurried assumptions. Or maybe there's something from yesterday still sitting heavy. Jesus invites you to name it: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). He's not surprised by anything you bring. Talk to him about where you've stumbled, where you've chosen your own way, where you need his grace. He's listening.

Thanksgiving

Pause and look around—not at what's missing, but at what's already here. Maybe it's the simple fact that you woke up, that you have this breath, that Jesus met you in sleep and brought you safely to morning. Or perhaps it's people in your life, a small comfort, a bit of light through a window. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). You don't have to manufacture gratitude; just notice what's true. What can you genuinely thank him for right now? Let yourself feel that gratitude, and speak it out.

My Concerns

Finally, open your hands and your heart to what's ahead. You might not know everything this day will hold, and that's okay. Invite Jesus into the known and the unknown: the meetings, the conversations, the decisions, the quiet moments. Ask him to help you stay close to him, to respond with his love, to notice where he's working. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). Bring him your hopes for today, your worries, your questions. Ask him to guide you, protect you, and keep your heart turned toward him as the day unfolds.
