An Evening Conversation with Jesus

As the day winds down, take a few moments to bring your whole self before Jesus—the good, the hard, and everything in between. This guide invites you to pause, reflect, and simply be present with him as evening settles in.

Evening Everyday life
5–12 min

Welcome. The day is behind you now, and this is a quiet space to sit with Jesus and let the weight of the hours fall away.

Adoration

Start by noticing what's true about who Jesus is, especially in this moment. You might think about how he's been present throughout your day—in the small mercies, the moments of grace, or simply in his constancy while you lived. As the apostle John writes, "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind" (John 1:4, ESV). That light hasn't dimmed because the sun has set. Tell Jesus what draws you to him. What aspect of his character feels real to you right now? Maybe it's his gentleness, his strength, his nearness, or his faithfulness. Don't rush—let yourself linger here, naming the things about him that matter most.

Confession

Now bring the things you'd rather not carry into tomorrow. Where did you fall short today? Where did you speak before you listened, or turn away when you might have turned toward someone? The good news is that Jesus doesn't ask you to clean yourself up first. As he told his disciples, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV)—you come as you are. Take a moment to be honest with him. Name what needs naming. There's no shame here, only the mercy of someone who knows you completely and loves you anyway.

Thanksgiving

Let your mind drift to the gifts of this day, both obvious and hidden. Maybe you're grateful for something clear—a conversation, a meal, a moment of beauty. Or maybe gratitude is quieter: the breath in your lungs, the roof over your head, the simple fact that you're still here. Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Thanksgiving isn't about pretending everything was perfect; it's about seeing the grace threaded through even the ordinary or difficult moments. What three things could you name right now? Speak them to Jesus. Tell him why each one matters.

My Concerns

Finally, open your hands and heart about what you need. Where are you tired? What's weighing on your mind as you head toward rest? What do you hope for tomorrow? Jesus invites you to ask. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). He's not distant or dismissive. Bring your real needs, your worries, your longings. Don't dress them up in formal language—just tell him. And as you do, you might also ask for what you need most right now: peace for sleep, clarity for a decision, strength for what's ahead, or simply the assurance that he's with you through the night.
