Adoration
Start by telling Jesus what you see when you look at what He's done. You might begin simply: "Jesus, You are so good." Let that sink in for a moment. Think about the character behind this gift, this moment, this answered prayer, or this unexpected kindness. As the psalmist declares, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom" (Psalm 145:3, NIV). Sit with that—His greatness is behind every joy you're holding tonight. What attribute of Jesus comes to mind as you think about this celebration? His faithfulness? His generosity? His love? Talk to Him about who He is, not just what He's done. Let your words rise naturally, like someone sharing wonder with a close friend.
Confession
Before we move forward, there might be something worth naming. Sometimes in celebration, we forget to acknowledge Him. Sometimes we take the credit, or we move so quickly to the next thing that we don't let gratitude fully land. You don't need to dwell here—just be honest. You might pray, "Jesus, I realize I almost missed stopping to thank You," or "Help me not to hold this so tightly that I forget it came from Your hand." There's no shame in any of that. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (ESV). This is an invitation, not a burden. If there's anything keeping you from fully celebrating—worry, comparison, guilt—name it gently and let Him hold it with you.
Thanksgiving
Now let the joy pour out. This is the easiest part because you're simply speaking the truth of what's happened. "Thank You, Jesus, for..." and fill in the blanks. Thank Him for the specific moment, the person involved, the answered prayer, the unexpected blessing. Thank Him for the people who celebrated with you. Thank Him for His patience in bringing this about, for His timing, for surprising you. The Psalmist invites us: "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name" (Psalm 100:4, NIV). Let gratitude spill over—it's not frivolous, it's worship. You might even thank Him for things connected to this joy: for health, for relationships, for the capacity to feel this happiness. Let yourself be generous in your thanks, because He has been generous with you.
My Concerns
Close by asking Jesus to help you carry this forward. You might pray for wisdom to steward what you've been given, or for the grace to share this joy with others. Ask Him to keep your heart tender and grateful in the days ahead, so that this celebration doesn't fade into forgetfulness. Ask Him to deepen the relationships involved, or to use this moment in ways you can't yet see. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (NIV). You might simply ask, "Jesus, what do You want me to do with this joy? How do You want me to live differently because of what You've done?" Leave space for His answer. He's listening, and He loves when His children bring their whole hearts—including their celebrations—to Him.
