An Evening Prayer After Meetings

A gentle guide to process your day of meetings with Jesus—to release what was heavy, celebrate what was good, and lay tomorrow's conversations at his feet.

Evening Before a big moment
5–12 min

Welcome. The meetings of your day are behind you now. Come sit with Jesus in the quiet of the evening, and let him help you process what happened and what comes next.

Adoration

Jesus, before you let go of this day, pause and notice his presence with you in the evening quiet. He was in those meetings—in the words you spoke, in the silences, in the moments you felt heard or misunderstood. As it says in Matthew, "Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" (Matthew 18:20, ESV). Your meetings today, however ordinary they seemed, were spaces where Jesus was present. Take a moment to acknowledge that. You might pray something like: *Jesus, I see now that you were there in the middle of those conversations. Thank you for not leaving me alone in any of them.* Sit with that for a breath. Let yourself feel the steadiness of his attention on you, his care for how you showed up today.

Confession

Now bring the harder parts into the light. Were there moments in those meetings when you spoke harshly, stayed silent when you should have spoken, or let frustration creep in? Were there times you felt defensive or small? Jesus already knows—and he is not keeping score. As Paul writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There is no judgment waiting here, only relief. Talk to Jesus about the things you wish you had done differently. Name them simply. Not to punish yourself, but to set them down. You might say: *Jesus, I'm sorry for the way I spoke to that person. I'm sorry for not listening well. I carried frustration into that room and let it show.* And then receive the forgiveness that is already there, waiting for you.

Thanksgiving

Your meetings today also held small goods—moments worth noticing. Maybe someone made you laugh. Maybe a hard conversation went better than you feared. Maybe you simply made it through a long day. These moments matter. In Philippians, Paul reminds us, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). Gratitude is not about pretending the day was perfect—it is about seeing the kindnesses woven through it. Look back at your meetings and name one or two things that went well, no matter how small. A good question you asked. A listening ear you offered. A deadline you met. Time with a colleague you enjoy. You might pray: *Jesus, I'm grateful for the way that conversation with [name] turned out. I'm grateful I got through that presentation. Thank you for giving me clarity when I needed it.* Let yourself feel the warmth of those small gifts.

My Concerns

As evening settles, bring your tomorrows to Jesus. Are there meetings ahead that make you anxious? Conversations you dread? People you need to repair things with? Decisions that feel tangled? Jesus cares about all of it. In Matthew, he tells us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). You don't have to carry these tomorrow-worries alone through the night. Hand them to him now. Talk to Jesus about the meetings on your calendar, the people you will see, the outcomes that matter to you. You might pray: *Jesus, I'm worried about that conversation coming up. I don't know how to handle it. Help me go in with patience. Help me listen well. Help me say what needs to be said with kindness.* And then invite him to go ahead of you into those meetings, to prepare the way, to calm what is restless in you.
