Adoration
As the day settles and the noise around you fades, there is space to remember who Jesus is—not just to you, but in himself. He is the one who sees around corners you cannot yet see. He knows the ending before the beginning. Spend a moment simply naming what draws you to trust him: his steadiness, his patience, the way he has guided you before. You might whisper, "Jesus, you are wise beyond measure," or sit with the truth that as the psalmist writes, "The Lord is my light and my salvation" (Psalm 27:1, ESV)—even when you cannot see the path ahead, he illuminates it. Let yourself rest in the reality that his nature is to lead those who belong to him, and that guiding you is not a burden to him but a delight.
Confession
Bring to Jesus the places where you have tried to navigate alone—the times you have rushed ahead without asking, or stayed frozen when you sensed his invitation to move. There is no shame in admitting that you do not always hear him clearly, or that fear sometimes whispers louder than faith. The good news is that confession is not about earning his help; it is about clearing the space between you and him so you can hear better. As John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). You might simply say, "Jesus, I have doubted. I have tried to steer my own ship. Forgive me, and help me turn toward you again." He is already turning toward you.
Thanksgiving
Even without knowing what comes next, you have evidence of his guidance in your past. Bring to mind a time when his direction became clear—when you sensed peace, or when a door closed and another opened, or when someone spoke a word that felt like his voice. Thank him for those moments. Thank him for the fact that you do not have to see the whole road to take the next step. As Paul writes, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). Gratitude is not pretending the uncertainty is gone; it is remembering that the one who guides you has never abandoned a step of the way.
My Concerns
Now lay your specific question before him. You do not need the perfect words—bring the decision, the fork in the road, the season of unknowing exactly as it sits in your heart. Ask him to make his will clear to you: through his Word, through wise counsel, through circumstances, through the quiet knowing that settles in your spirit when you are listening. You might pray, "Show me the way forward, Jesus. Give me clarity. Help me to recognize your voice." Listen for his invitation. Remember that seeking guidance is not one-and-done; it is a conversation. As Proverbs promises, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV). He is patient with the questions that take time to answer.
