Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer

A prayer guide to center yourself before a day filled with meetings. Bring your concerns, hopes, and need for clarity to Jesus as you prepare to show up present and thoughtful in each conversation ahead.

Morning Before a big moment
5–10 min

Welcome. Before the meetings begin and your day pulls in different directions, take a few minutes to sit with Jesus and let Him calm and focus your heart.

Adoration

Start by noticing Jesus' presence right here, right now—before any meeting begins. He is with you in the quiet of this morning, and He cares deeply about how today unfolds. You might praise Him for His wisdom that far exceeds your own, and for the way He listens and speaks into every conversation. As it says in Proverbs, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Talk to Jesus about who He is—not just as a helper for your meetings, but as the one who knows every person you'll encounter today, who sees what matters most, and who is already present in each room you'll enter. Let your heart settle into the truth that you are not carrying this day alone.

Confession

Now bring any weight you're carrying into this prayer. Where do you feel unprepared or anxious about what's ahead? You might confess impatience you've felt before, or words you regret from past conversations. Be honest about the places where you know you lean too hard on your own understanding instead of asking for guidance. Jesus invites us to cast our cares on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). There's no judgment here—only the grace that meets you exactly as you are. Speak aloud or silently about what weighs on you, and let yourself be reminded that confession clears the way for His peace to settle in.

Thanksgiving

Before you step into your meetings, pause to notice what you're grateful for. Thank Jesus for the people you'll see today—even the difficult ones—and for the opportunity to listen well and speak truthfully. You might thank Him for clarity He's already given you, for colleagues or leaders who bring out your best thinking, or simply for another morning to try again. As Paul writes, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). Gratitude has a way of shifting your perspective from anxiety to readiness. Let your heart name the specific gifts—large and small—that surround you as you prepare.

My Concerns

Finally, ask Jesus for what you truly need today. You might ask for wisdom to listen well, for words that are honest but kind, for the ability to stay calm when conversations become tense, or for clarity about what really matters in each discussion. Pray for the people you'll meet with—that they'd also find courage and openness. Ask Him to help you remember throughout the day that you're not defined by how these meetings go, and that His love for you doesn't depend on your performance. Jesus said, "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). Bring your specific concerns—the budget meeting, the difficult conversation, the presentation—directly to Him, and ask Him to go ahead of you into each one.
