Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer

Start your day by bringing your meetings—the conversations, decisions, and people involved—into Jesus's presence. This guide helps you hand over your concerns and invite Him into the hours ahead.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Before your day fills with voices and agendas, take these few minutes to sit with Jesus. He's already awake, already aware of what's coming.

Adoration

Begin by remembering who Jesus is in the midst of busy days. He is not distant from the ordinary work of meetings and conversations. As Paul reminds us, "Christ is all, and is in all" (Colossians 3:11, ESV)—which means He's present in conference rooms and video calls too. Take a moment to praise Him for His attentiveness. He sees the person who will struggle to speak up. He knows the tension you're walking into. He hears the unspoken questions. You might simply say to Him: Thank you that nothing about today surprises you. Thank you that you care about the details I care about. As you pray, let yourself rest in the truth that the One who holds all things together is also holding your morning.

Confession

Now bring the weight you're carrying into His presence. Perhaps you're anxious about being prepared, or worried about conflict, or frustrated that meetings feel like they steal time from what really matters. Maybe you're carrying self-doubt, or old hurt from past conversations that makes you wary today. You don't need to perform confidence you don't feel. Jesus invites you to be honest: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). There's no shame in naming what's hard. Talk to Him about what you're actually feeling. If you're anxious, say so. If you're angry about the agenda, tell Him. If you're carrying doubt about your voice mattering, lay that down. He already knows—and He's not waiting for you to clean it up first.

Thanksgiving

Even in a morning full of meetings, there is ground for gratitude. Thank Jesus for the people you'll encounter today—even the difficult ones—because they matter to Him. Thank Him for clarity of thought when you need it, for words that come at the right moment, for the chance to listen well and learn something you didn't expect. You might give thanks for a colleague who makes you laugh, or a meeting that actually leads somewhere, or simply the fact that you're awake and able to show up. As David writes, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving" (Psalm 100:4, ESV)—and your morning can be one of those gates. Even small mercies count: a good cup of coffee, a quiet moment before things get loud, the knowledge that you're not walking through this day alone.

My Concerns

Now ask Jesus for what you actually need. Don't minimize it. Ask for calm when anxiety rises. Ask for words when you need to speak, and wisdom to know when to listen. If there's a conversation you're dreading, ask Him to soften hearts—yours and others'. Ask for courage to say what needs saying and grace to receive what needs hearing. Ask Him to remind you, mid-meeting, that your worth isn't determined by how things go. You might pray: Help me see people today the way you see them. Calm my racing thoughts. Give me patience. Help me remember that I'm not responsible for fixing everything in this room—you are. And finally, ask Him to be present in a way you can actually feel, even in the chaos. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). He's listening, and He cares about the small and the significant alike.
