Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer
A gentle guide to bring Jesus into your day of meetings—inviting Him into the conversations ahead, the decisions to be made, and the people you'll encounter.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by noticing who Jesus is in this moment. He is not distant from your calendar or your conference room—He is the one who knows every conversation before it happens, and He cares about what unfolds in these meetings as much as you do. You might pray something like: "Jesus, you are present everywhere at once. You see into hearts and know the words we need to speak before we speak them. I worship you as the God who ordains my steps, even the small ones—even the ones in rooms filled with people." Take a breath and let that truth settle. As Paul reminds us, "in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28, ESV). That includes your 9 a.m. meeting, your conference call, your conversation with your colleague. Nothing falls outside His presence or His care.
Confession
Now gently turn toward anything that weighs on your conscience about these meetings ahead. Maybe you're anxious about how you'll come across. Maybe you're harboring frustration toward someone you'll see. Maybe you're tempted toward words that aren't true or kind, or you're afraid you'll be silent when you should speak. Jesus already knows these things, and He invites you to name them without shame. You might whisper: "I confess that I'm worried about being judged." Or "I'm carrying anger into this day, and I want to lay it down." Bring it all to Him honestly. He does not flinch. As it says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). That cleansing starts right now, before you walk into the room.
Thanksgiving
Even before the meetings begin, there is grace to acknowledge. Thank Jesus for the people you'll see—even the difficult ones. Thank Him for any insight, skill, or clarity He's already given you. Thank Him for breath in your lungs and a mind that works. You might say: "I'm grateful that you've brought me this far. I'm thankful for the wisdom of the people around the table. I'm grateful that you're not asking me to do this alone." There is almost always something to be grateful for if we pause to notice it. Philippians 4:4 reminds us to "rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (ESV)—not because the meetings are easy, but because Jesus is with you in them.
My Concerns
Now bring your actual needs before Jesus. Ask for the specific help you need. Ask Him to guard your words and your heart. Ask for wisdom in the decisions ahead. Ask Him to soften any tension, to open ears that need to hear, to give you courage if you need to speak up, or patience if you need to listen well. You might pray: "Give me words that are true and kind. Help me to listen well. Show me how to honor you in this conversation. If I'm meant to influence something, give me wisdom. If I'm meant to stay quiet, give me peace." Be specific. Jesus delights in the details of your day. As it says in Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (ESV). Your meetings are not too small for His attention.
