Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer
A prayer guide to center yourself before a day filled with meetings. This guide helps you bring your concerns, hopes, and need for wisdom to Jesus as you prepare for conversations and decisions ahead.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is in this moment. He is not distant or preoccupied — He is attentive, fully present, and deeply invested in how your day unfolds. As you begin, you might speak to Him about His steadiness: the way He listens without rushing, the way He sees what truly matters beneath surface conversations. The psalmist reminds us, "The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). In meetings, there can be pressure, competing voices, the weight of decisions. But Jesus is the light that clarifies what is true and good. Take a moment to tell Him: what aspect of His character do you most need to lean into today? His wisdom? His calm? His authority over outcomes? Speak that aloud or in the quiet of your heart.
Confession
Now, gently turn toward honesty. Meetings can stir up things in us — maybe anxiety about how we'll be perceived, or the temptation to say yes to everything, or the urge to control outcomes. You might feel the pull to rely on your own strength rather than ask for help. Jesus invites you into honesty about this: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). There's no judgment here, only an invitation to lay down what you're carrying alone. What weight are you bringing into today's meetings? Is it fear of a difficult conversation? Doubt about a decision you need to make? The weight of trying to please everyone? Tell Jesus about it. He doesn't shame you for the struggle — He meets you there and offers you a different way.
Thanksgiving
Even before the meetings happen, there is much to be grateful for. You might thank Jesus for the people you'll meet with — for their perspectives, their care, or simply their presence. Thank Him for giving you a voice and the capacity to think clearly. Thank Him for any wins, however small, from recent conversations or decisions. As Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Gratitude isn't about pretending everything is easy; it's about recognizing that Jesus is at work even in the hard parts. What is one thing — one person, one ability, one small grace — that you're genuinely thankful for as you head into this day? Name it to Him.
My Concerns
Finally, ask. Jesus welcomes your specific requests, and He invites you to be direct with Him: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). You might ask for clarity in a particular conversation, wisdom about what to say, or calm if anxiety rises. You might ask Him to help you listen well, to speak truth gently, or to remember what truly matters when the noise gets loud. You might ask for protection — not from difficulty, but from getting pulled away from your values. Ask Him to help you see His presence in the room. And ask for whatever you most need: patience, courage, humility, or simply the ability to trust that He's holding the outcomes. Speak your requests to Him now, knowing He hears and cares about every one.
