Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer

A guide to bring your anxieties, hopes, and focus to Jesus before a day full of meetings. Take a few moments to set your heart toward Him before the day pulls you in different directions.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Your day is already full before it starts. Come sit with Jesus for a few minutes and let Him help you carry what's ahead.

Adoration

Begin by noticing who Jesus is, especially in moments like this one. You might start by acknowledging that He is present with you right now—not distant, not waiting for you to get your act together first. As the psalmist reminds us, "The Lord is near to all who call on him" (Psalm 145:18, ESV). Take a moment to tell Jesus what draws you to Him this morning. Maybe it's His patience. Maybe it's His clarity. Maybe it's simply that He sees you and knows your name. You don't need grand words—just honest ones. Speak to the Jesus who already knows everything about your day and loves you anyway.

Confession

Now bring the weight you're carrying into the light. You might be walking into meetings carrying frustration from yesterday, or dread about a difficult conversation, or that quiet voice telling you that you'll mess something up. Jesus invites you to lay it down. As He says in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (ESV). Don't hide anything—not your irritation, not your fear, not the ways you know you've already failed or might fail today. Name them gently to Him. There is no judgment in His presence, only the kind of honesty that actually sets us free. Pause and let Him receive what you're handing over.

Thanksgiving

Even before this day unfolds, there is something to be grateful for. You woke up. You have people to meet with, even if they're complicated. You have breath, and clarity, and a God who does not ask you to manage the day alone. Think about one or two people you'll see today—maybe someone difficult, maybe someone kind—and thank Jesus for them. Thank Him for coffee, or tea, or the quiet of this morning. Thank Him that He doesn't grade your meetings on a curve; He meets you in the ordinary moments where you show up and try. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). Let that settle in you.

My Concerns

Finally, ask Him for what you actually need. Not for everything to go perfectly—meetings rarely do. But ask Him for clarity when conversations get tangled. Ask Him for patience when someone frustrates you. Ask Him for the courage to say what needs to be said, or the wisdom to stay quiet when you should listen. Ask Him for a calm mind and a settled heart, even if the room feels chaotic. You might pray, "Jesus, help me show up as myself today, without performing or shrinking. Keep me present. Help me remember that this meeting—and all of them—matter less than my relationship with You." Tell Him one specific thing you're worried about, and ask Him to carry it with you through the hours ahead.
