Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer

Start your day by bringing your meetings—the conversations, decisions, and people involved—to Jesus. This guide helps you move from anxiety about what's ahead into His presence, asking Him to shape not just what you say, but who you are in the room.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Take a breath. Before the day crowds in with back-to-back conversations and decisions, let's sit with Jesus for a few minutes and invite Him into what's ahead.

Adoration

Begin by simply noticing who Jesus is—not yet asking Him to do anything. He is present with you right now, and He was present in every meeting you've ever sat through. You might pray something like: "Jesus, You are the God who sees everything that's about to happen today. You already know what will be said, what will be decided, and what will be hard. I'm grateful that You're not surprised by any of it." As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13, ESV)—not because you'll say all the right things, but because His strength is what steadies you. Spend a moment acknowledging His presence in meetings you've led or attended before. He was there. He is here now.

Confession

Now bring the weight you're carrying into the light. Are you worried about how you'll come across? Afraid your voice won't matter? Tempted to say something you shouldn't, or to stay silent when you should speak? There's no judgment here—just honesty. You might pray: "Jesus, I confess that I'm anxious about today. I want to be seen as competent, and sometimes that makes me defensive. I also confess the times I've let fear keep me from speaking truth." The apostle John reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Name what's real for you—the fear, the ambition, the weariness—and let it be met by His mercy, not your performance.

Thanksgiving

Shift now to gratitude, even for the small things. Thank Jesus for the people in your meetings—even the difficult ones—because they are part of how He shapes you. You might pray: "Thank You for my colleagues. Thank You for the chance to work on something that matters. Thank You that I don't have to figure everything out alone." The psalmist writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Thank Him, too, for past meetings where He showed up—where clarity came, or kindness broke through tension, or you said something brave. Those moments are real, and they matter.

My Concerns

Finally, bring your specific requests to Jesus. Not as demands, but as honest asking. You might pray: "Help me listen well today—really hear what others are saying instead of rehearsing what I'll say next. Give me courage to speak up when it's right, and wisdom to know when to stay quiet. Help me remember that this meeting doesn't define my worth. And if there's conflict, help me be a peacemaker, not a protector of my own image." Jesus Himself prayed, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:13, ESV), acknowledging that we need His guidance for the moment we're walking into. Ask Him to go into the room with you—not to make you look good, but to make you more like Himself. Ask for clarity, for patience, for words that build rather than tear down.
