Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer for Clarity and Calm

A prayer guide to bring Jesus into your morning before the meetings ahead. You'll bring your concerns to him, ask for wisdom in conversations, and invite his presence into each interaction.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Take a breath. Before the day takes over, let's bring these meetings to Jesus together.

Adoration

Start by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of a busy day. He is not distant from spreadsheets and conversations—he is present to every word spoken in every room. You might pray something like: "Jesus, you see every meeting I'm about to walk into. You know the people in those rooms, the things we need to discuss, the decisions we face. Help me see you in this day." As the psalmist writes, "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly" (Psalm 5:3, NIV). Jesus is not too busy for your day. He is already there, already attentive. Spend a moment simply acknowledging his presence—that he cares about how your meetings go, about the conversations you'll have, about the weight you might be carrying into them.

Confession

Now bring the parts of yourself you're aware of into the light. Maybe you're feeling anxious or wanting to control outcomes. Maybe you're tempted to be dishonest, or you know you tend to speak without listening, or you're carrying frustration into these meetings from somewhere else. Jesus doesn't need you to pretend you feel ready or calm when you don't. You might pray: "Jesus, I bring you my worry about how this will go. I bring you my desire to impress people or to be right. I bring you the defensiveness I'm already feeling." There's freedom in naming what's really there. As Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV)—which means you can bring the real you, not a polished version. Let him see what's true in you this morning.

Thanksgiving

Even before the meetings happen, there are things to be grateful for. You have people to meet with—relationships, even if they're complicated. You have work that matters. You have a mind that can think and speak. You might pray: "Jesus, thank you for the opportunity to be part of these conversations. Thank you for the people I'm about to see, even the difficult ones. Thank you that you go with me." Paul writes, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, NIV)—not because meetings are always easy, but because Jesus walks with you into them. Take a moment to notice one or two specific things you can genuinely thank him for as you begin your day.

My Concerns

Now ask Jesus for what you actually need. Wisdom in what to say and when to listen. Courage to speak truth gently. Patience with people who frustrate you. Clarity about what matters most in these conversations. You might pray: "Jesus, give me wisdom in that first meeting. Help me listen well. Calm my mind so I can think clearly. Help me represent you well in how I treat people." As James writes, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Jesus invites you to ask specifically. Don't be vague—tell him exactly what you need: steadiness, kindness, discernment, a calm voice, the ability to see someone else's perspective. He is listening, and he cares about the detail of your day.
