Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer for Clarity and Presence

A guided prayer for the morning when your day holds meetings. This prayer helps you hand your schedule, words, and interactions to Jesus before you step into them.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Before your day fills with voices and agendas, sit here with Jesus for a few minutes. This prayer time is for you to hand over what's ahead.

Adoration

Start by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of a crowded day. He is not distant from your meetings — He is present in every conversation, every difficult moment, every chance to listen well. As you sit here in the quiet before the rush begins, tell Him what you love about His character. Maybe it's His steadiness, His wisdom in the midst of confusion, or the way He always knows what's really being said beneath the surface of words. The psalmist reminds us, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise" (Psalm 48:1, ESV). You might pray about how He rules over the hours ahead with perfect knowledge. Talk to Jesus about how His presence in you is more real than the presence of any meeting room, any email chain, any difficult conversation you might face today.

Confession

Before your feet hit the ground in those meetings, name what's true about yourself: the ways you might hide rather than speak your truth, the moments you might prioritize being liked over being honest, the times you lean on your own understanding instead of asking for His. You don't have to perform a certain version of yourself in front of Jesus—He already sees you. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Take a moment to bring the small anxieties too—the ones that might make you defensive or rushed in conversation. Let Him hold them. There's nothing you've thought or feared about today that surprises Him or makes Him turn away.

Thanksgiving

Before the day demands anything of you, pause to notice what's already yours. Maybe it's the people you'll see in those meetings—their faces, their quirks, the ways they've helped you. Thank Jesus for the chance to be present with them, to listen, to maybe even speak a word that matters. You might thank Him for the work itself, for the chance to contribute, for the privilege of using your mind and voice. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). Thank Him too for the ordinary gift of this morning—the coffee, the quiet, the few minutes before everything starts. These are grace. Talk to Jesus about the specific people or situations you're grateful for, even if the day ahead feels uncertain.

My Concerns

Now bring your actual day to Jesus with open hands. You might ask Him for clarity—not clarity about what everyone else is thinking, but clarity about what you're being asked to do and say. Ask for courage to speak what needs to be said without needing to control the outcome. Ask Him to quiet the noise in your mind so you can actually listen to the people in the room, not just wait for your turn to talk. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV). Ask for wisdom that comes from above—the kind that is humble and kind, not just clever. Bring the specific meeting that worries you most, or the person you find hardest to be around. Ask Jesus to help you see them the way He does. Ask Him to help you remember, in the middle of it all, that you're not alone.
