Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer for Clarity and Presence
A gentle morning prayer guide to bring your whole self—your thoughts, concerns, and hopes—before Jesus as you face a day filled with meetings. Find calm and focus for the conversations ahead.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is in this moment. He is not rushed, not anxious about your calendar, not distant from the details of your day. As the psalmist says, "In the morning my prayer comes before you" (Psalm 88:13, ESV)—He is already awake, already present, already listening. You might begin by simply telling Him: *Jesus, you are steady. You are present in every conversation I'll have today. You know what needs to be said before I walk into each room.* Let that sink in. The God who holds all things together is already in those meetings with you. What aspect of His character steadies you most as you think about today?
Confession
Now bring the weight you're carrying. Maybe there's anxiety about being heard, or frustration you're afraid will show, or words you regret from a previous meeting. Maybe you're worried you won't be enough—prepared enough, quick enough, wise enough. Jesus invites you into honesty here. He says, "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). You don't have to perform or pretend. You might pray: *Jesus, I confess that I'm carrying worry about these meetings. I'm afraid of [name it—conflict, being overlooked, not having answers]. I've let anxiety crowd out trust in you.* Pause here. What do you need to admit? What fear or frustration have you been holding alone?
Thanksgiving
Even in a full day of meetings, there is grace to notice. Thank Jesus for the people you'll be with—even the difficult ones—because He loves them too. Thank Him for any clarity you already have, any preparation that's done, any past conversations that went better than you feared. As Paul writes, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). You might pray: *Jesus, thank you for [name a person in your meetings, a skill you have, a time you felt heard before]. Thank you that you're not surprised by anything that will happen today.* What's one thing—even small—that you're grateful for as you step into these conversations?
My Concerns
Now ask Jesus for what you need. Ask for calm in your body, for words that are true and kind, for the ability to listen well. Ask for wisdom to know when to speak and when to be still. Ask Him to help you see others as He sees them. Jesus said, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach" (James 1:5, ESV). You might pray: *Jesus, give me calm. Help me listen well. Give me words that build others up, not tear them down. Help me remember that you're in this room with me.* What do you most need from Him today? Ask Him directly—He is listening and He delights to answer.
