Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer for Presence and Clarity
Start your day by bringing your meetings to Jesus. This guide helps you release anxiety about the day ahead, invite His wisdom into your conversations, and step into each meeting with greater calm and purpose.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by remembering who Jesus is—not just for your meetings, but for you, right now. You might whisper to Him: You are steady when my mind is scattered. You are present in every conversation. As the psalmist writes, "In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly" (Psalm 5:3, NIV). Jesus doesn't rush through mornings the way you might. He moves with intention. Tell Him what draws you to His character today. Maybe it's His patience, His wisdom, or simply the fact that He cares about the small meetings that feel big to you. Let yourself marvel at the Jesus who shows up before you do.
Confession
Now talk to Him honestly about what's tangled inside you. Are you carrying worry about how you'll come across? Impatience with someone you'll see today? The desire to control outcomes that aren't really yours to control? Jesus already knows—He invites you to name it anyway, because naming it loosens its grip. As He told His disciples, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, NIV). There's no judgment in His listening, only the kind of love that helps you set burdens down. If you're tempted to perform or impress today, tell Him. If you're afraid of conflict or of being overlooked, speak it. He's not keeping score; He's keeping you.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for anything, pause and notice what's already yours. You have breath in your lungs this morning. You have a mind that works. You have Jesus, who goes ahead of you into every meeting. Thank Him for people in your day—even the difficult ones—because they're part of how He grows you. You might pray: "Thank you that I don't have to earn my place at the table. Thank you that my worth isn't determined by what I accomplish today." As Paul wrote, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). Gratitude shifts you from scarcity to abundance. It reminds you that you're not walking into your meetings alone or unprepared—you're walking in with a Father who loves you.
My Concerns
Now bring your requests gently forward. You might ask Jesus for clarity—for words that are kind and true, for listening ears when you speak, for the ability to hear what others really mean beneath their words. Ask Him for courage to say what needs saying and wisdom to know when to be quiet. Ask for patience with the pace of meetings, with consensus-building, with people who think differently than you do. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). You might also ask Him to help you see your meetings as small acts of service, not battles to win. Ask that His peace would stay with you even when conversations get tense. And if there's one relationship or one conversation you're particularly nervous about, bring that specifically to Jesus. He is listening, and He cares about the details that feel enormous to you.
