Before the Meetings: A Morning Prayer
A prayer guide to center yourself before a day of meetings. Find clarity, courage, and Christ's presence as you prepare to listen, speak, and lead with wisdom.

Before a big moment

Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is this morning. He is the one who speaks and listens perfectly—He speaks with absolute truth, and He listens with complete understanding. As you picture Him entering a room, there's no hurry in Him, no anxiety. You might pray something like: Thank you, Jesus, that you are present in every conversation. You know the hearts of everyone who will be in these meetings. You don't rush. You see what matters. Take a moment to sit with that reality. Jesus isn't distant from your calendar or your conference table. In Matthew 18:20, He promises, "Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" (ESV). That includes your meetings today. Whisper His name. Tell Him how much you need His steadiness, His wisdom, His peace as you move through the day.
Confession
Now bring the weight you're carrying. Maybe you're worried about how people will perceive you, or whether you'll say the right thing. Maybe you're frustrated with someone who'll be in the room, or you're carrying resentment from a previous conversation. Jesus invites you into honesty here—not as shame, but as relief. You might say: Jesus, I confess that I sometimes care more about being liked than being truthful. I worry about what people think. I get impatient. I interrupt. I check out mentally. Whatever sits with you this morning, name it gently. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). There's no judgment in His presence—only the freedom of being fully known and fully loved.
Thanksgiving
What has Jesus done for you, even in the midst of difficult meetings? Maybe someone listened to you with real care. Maybe a conversation went better than you feared. Maybe you learned something about yourself or someone else. Maybe, simply, you made it through. You might pray: Thank you for the people in my life who show up, even when it's hard. Thank you for teaching me through these interactions. Thank you that my worth doesn't depend on how a meeting goes. Paul writes in Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (ESV). Even before the meetings begin, you can thank Him for His presence that will be there—whether the day feels smooth or difficult.
My Concerns
Now ask Jesus for what you need. Ask for clarity in your thinking and gentleness in your words. Ask for patience when frustration rises, and courage to speak truth when it matters. Ask that you would listen more than you speak, and that the ears of others would be open. You might pray: Jesus, give me wisdom today. Help me listen well. Calm my racing thoughts. If I need to be brave, give me courage. If I need to be quiet, help me rest in that. In James 1:5, we're told, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault" (NIV). He is not withholding. Ask freely. Ask specifically. Ask with the trust that He cares about your meetings because He cares about you.
