Before the Meetings Begin

A morning prayer guide to center yourself before a day of meetings. This guide helps you invite Jesus into the conversations, decisions, and interactions ahead—asking for clarity, patience, and His presence in each room you enter.

Morning Before a big moment
5–12 min

Before your day fills with voices and agendas, take a few minutes to sit with Jesus and offer Him the meetings ahead. He cares about how you show up today.

Adoration

Begin by recognizing who Jesus is—the one who is already present in every conversation, every decision, every interaction you'll face. He doesn't just observe from a distance; He's Emmanuel, God with us. You might pray something like: "Jesus, You are present in every moment, in every word spoken and unspoken. You see what matters in these meetings today—not just the agenda items, but the hearts in the room. I worship You as the one who brings wisdom where there is confusion, and peace where there is tension." Let yourself sit for a moment with the truth that He goes before you into each meeting. As Paul writes, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV)—but even now, Jesus sees clearly what you need. You might simply tell Him: "I trust You with today."

Confession

Now bring any anxiety, impatience, or self-concern to Him honestly. Maybe you're worried about how you'll be perceived. Maybe you're frustrated about a conversation you know is coming. Maybe you're aware you tend to dominate meetings or stay silent when you should speak. Jesus doesn't need you to hide these things; He invites you to name them. You might pray: "Jesus, I confess that I sometimes care more about my reputation than about serving others well. I get defensive when I'm challenged. I prepare to argue instead of to listen." Whatever it is, bring it. There's no judgment waiting for you here—only the one who says, as He did to the woman caught in sin, "Neither do I condemn you" (John 8:11, ESV). He meets you with grace. You might ask Him simply: "Help me see where I need to change my heart today."

Thanksgiving

Pause and notice what's already true. You've made it to another morning. You have a role, a voice, colleagues or teammates—even if those relationships are complicated. You have a mind that can think, ears that can listen. Thank Jesus for the specific people you'll meet with—even the difficult ones. You might pray: "Jesus, I'm grateful for the people in these meetings, for their perspectives even when they challenge me. I'm thankful for another chance to do my work with integrity. Thank You for giving me a voice and for teaching me to use it for others' good." As Colossians 3:15 reminds us, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace" (NIV). Even in disagreement, there can be peace. You might simply say: "Thank You for this day and for being in it with me."

My Concerns

Now ask Jesus for what you genuinely need. Ask for clarity when decisions matter. Ask for patience with slow talkers or impatient ones. Ask for humility to listen well, courage to speak truth kindly, and wisdom to know the difference between the two. You might pray: "Jesus, I ask for a clear mind in our first meeting. Help me listen more than I plan to speak. Give me patience with _____ (name someone if it helps). Help me represent You well—not perfectly, but genuinely." Be specific. Jesus cares about the actual meetings you're walking into. As He teaches us, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). You might also ask: "Help me remember that my worth isn't determined by how these meetings go. Help me stay tethered to You." Trust that He hears.
