Before the Meetings Begin
A morning prayer to bring Jesus into your day of meetings—whether they're filled with anticipation, anxiety, or routine. This guide helps you invite Him into conversations, decisions, and interactions ahead.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is—not just for you, but as the one who holds all authority and all relationship. You might pray something like: "Jesus, you are present in every room, every conversation. You speak with wisdom that runs deeper than any agenda on my calendar." As Paul writes to the Colossians, "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17, ESV). Before you walk into any meeting, acknowledge that He is already there—not as an observer, but as the one who sees the hearts of everyone in that room. Take a moment to bow your heart to His presence and authority, right now, before the day begins.
Confession
Now bring the weight you carry into these meetings to Jesus. Maybe you're walking in with frustration about a past conversation, or anxiety about speaking up, or weariness about sitting through another agenda that doesn't feel meaningful. You might confess: "Jesus, I'm carrying some heaviness into today. I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing. I'm tired of being unheard. I want to control how others see me." He invites you here—there's no judgment in naming what's true. As it says in 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (ESV). Whatever you're bringing—frustration, pressure, the desire to impress, the fear of failing—lay it down here. He's already made room for it.
Thanksgiving
Even before the meetings happen, there is something to thank Jesus for. You might give thanks for a person in one of those meetings who listens well, or for a decision that went right last time, or simply for the fact that He walks in with you. You could pray: "Thank you, Jesus, for colleagues who care. Thank you for giving me words when I need them. Thank you that I don't have to face this day alone." As Philippians 4:4-5 reminds us, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice... The Lord is at hand" (ESV). Even small things—a cup of coffee, a moment of quiet before it all starts, the chance to be in dialogue with others—are worth naming. Gratitude anchors you before the rush begins.
My Concerns
Now ask Jesus for what you actually need in these meetings. Be specific. You might pray: "Help me listen more than I convince. Give me clarity when I'm confused. Help me speak truthfully without fear. Guard my heart against comparison. Show me where you're working in these conversations." Jesus loves specific requests—they show Him you trust Him with the real stuff. As He teaches in Matthew 7:7-8, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you" (ESV). Ask Him for patience, for words, for wisdom about when to speak and when to stay quiet. Ask Him to work in the people around that table too. Ask Him to make you present rather than distracted, and grounded rather than reactive. Then trust that He hears you.
