Before the Meetings Begin
A morning prayer guide to bring clarity, calm, and Christ's presence into your day of meetings. Step into your schedule knowing you're not walking through it alone.
Morning
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is — not just for your meetings, but for you right now, in this quiet moment before the day rushes in. Jesus, you are the Wonderful Counselor, the one who knows every heart in every room before we even enter it. You speak truth that cuts through confusion. You see people as they really are. As it's written, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10, ESV) — and that wisdom is what you offer freely. Spend a moment simply honoring him for his steadiness. You might whisper: "Jesus, you are present. You are wise. You are here."
Confession
Now bring your heart honestly before him. What's weighing on you about today? Anxiety about how you'll be perceived? Impatience with difficult people? A tendency to speak before listening? Jesus invites us to lay these down. As Paul reminds us, "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). There's no shame in admitting what's true — that you can't manage this alone, that you need his grace. You might say: "Jesus, I'm carrying [name what's real]. I confess that I want to control how this goes, but I'm laying that down with you."
Thanksgiving
Before you face a single meeting, pause to recognize what's already true. You have breath. You have people to speak with — that's a gift, even if it's hard. You have Jesus's presence, which doesn't depend on how the meetings go. He's already been faithful to you in countless moments before this morning. You might thank him for a conversation that went well recently, for a person who listened, for his patience with you. As Colossians reminds us, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful" (Colossians 3:15, ESV). Gratitude settles the soul.
My Concerns
Now ask for what you actually need. Wisdom in listening. Kindness when frustration rises. Courage to say what matters. Clarity about what you can and cannot control. You might pray: "Jesus, give me ears to hear not just words but what people need. Give me words that build up, not tear down. Show me where to lead and where to follow. Help me remember that these conversations matter to you — that the people in every meeting matter to you." As you pray, trust that he hears. "The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth" (Psalm 145:18, ESV).
